Loving, Justinger named to AP all-district teams

Junior Marc Loving of St. John’s Jesuit and senior Miriam Justinger of Northview have collected the top Division I honors on the 2012 Associated Press northwest Ohio all-district basketball teams.

Loving, a 6-foot-8 guard/forward for the Titans, who were 14-6 during the regular season, was named boys D-I district player of the year after averaging 22.9 points and 9.0 rebounds per game.

Loving committed to Ohio State shortly after his freshman season at St. John’s.

Justinger, a 6-0 guard/forward who led Northview to a 19-1 season and 14-0 mark in the Northern Lakes League, is the girls D-I player of the year. Justinger, who has signed to play at Kent State, averaged 19.5 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 3.9 assists for the Wildcats.

The all-district teams were selected by a 10-member panel of media representatives from around northwest Ohio.

Also included on the D-I boys first team are 6-7 junior Nigel Hayes (13.8 points, 9.3 rebounds) of 18-2 Three Rivers Athletic Conference champion Whitmer, 6-9 junior Mark Donnal (19.6 points, 9.2 rebounds) of 14-6 Anthony Wayne, and 6-11 senior C.J. Gettys (20.6 points, 9.1 rebounds) of 15-5 Findlay.

Donnal is an early commit to the University of Michigan, and Gettys will play at North Carolina-Wilmington next year.

Rounding out the D-I girls first team are two seniors from 16-4 Notre Dame — 6-1 Michelle Holmes (12.3 points, 12.2 rebounds) and 5-4 Cat Wells (10.7 points, 7.1 assists). Joining them are 5-8 senior Jamie Sobczak (17.3 points, 5.2 rebounds, 5.0 assists) of Central Catholic, and 5-9 senior Maddie Strall (19.5 points, 6.8 rebounds) of St. Ursula.

Wells has signed to play at Toledo.

In Division II, the boys first team includes 6-5 junior Jordan Lauf (21.9 points, 9-6 rebounds) of 17-3 NLL champion Napoleon, 6-7 junior Vitto Brown (19.2 points, 11.9 rebounds) of 11-9 Bowling Green, and 6-9 senior Wade Wooley (12.6 points, 11.2 rebounds) of 18-2 Wauseon.

The D-II player of the year is Reggie McAdams of Elida.

Named to the girls D-II first team was 5-2 junior Cha’Ron Sweeney (19.4 points, 4.6 assists) of 16-4 City League champion Rogers. Sophomore Amanda Cahill of Clyde was named D-II girls player of the year.

Lake’s 5-11 senior RaShad Smith (19.6 points) and Delta’s 6-4 senior Blake Green (16.4 points, 7.0 rebounds) were each named to the Division III first team, which is headed up by player of the year Nolan Todd of Collins Western Reserve.

The D-III girls first team included two four-year varsity standouts who shared player-of-the-year honors — 5-8 Lauren Langenderfer (24.3 points, 10.9 rebounds, 7.7 assists) of 17-3 Evergreen, and 5-8 Caitie Craft (21.4 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.8 assists) of 18-2 Liberty-Benton. Craft, the sister of current Ohio State mens standout Aaron Craft, has signed to play on scholarship on the Ohio State womens team.

Joining Langenderfer and Craft on the D-III girls first team is 5-10 sophomore Cassidy Wyse (13.1 points, 7.1 rebounds) of 20-0 Northwest Ohio Athletic League champion Archbold.

Ryan Aelker (14.4 points, 7.3 rebounds), a 6-3 senior from 13-7 Holgate, made the Division IV boys first team, and Miranda Palmer (18.1 points), a 5-6 junior from 17-3 Arcadia, was named to the D-IV girls first team.

The D-IV boys co-players of the year are Konner Baker of Ada and Wade Gelhaus of Fort Recovery, and the D-IV girls player of the year is Amanda Recker of Arlington.
