Schorsch tops Delp to win district singles

Titans' Brown, Crawford capture doubles title

BOWLING GREEN -- Perrysburg junior Jeff Schorsch is heading to the state tennis tournament for the third straight season after winning the singles championship Saturday at the Division I district.

Schorsch qualified to state indoubles last year as a district champion, and he reached state as a freshman in singles when he was district runner-up.

Schorsch defeated Central Catholic sophomore Dugan Delp 6-1, 6-1 in the final at Keefe Courts at Bowling Green State University.

Schorsch battled past Findlay junior Lucas Schaible (7-6, 7-5) in the semifinals. Delp will also advance to the state meet.

The team of Kevin Brown and Spencer Crawford of St. John's Jesuit won the D-I district doubles title.

Brown, a freshman, and Crawford, a senior, defeated Northview's Brandon Rachwal and Spencer Georgetti 6-1, 6-1 in the final.

In Division I, the top two singles and top two doubles teams advance to the state tournament in Columbus.

In Division II, Maumee Valley's doubles team of Grant McPherson and Stephen Shin is heading to state after placing second.

McPherson and Shin lost 6-2, 6-1 in the final to John Kidd and Alex Swick of Lima Central Catholic.

In D-II, the top three singles and top three doubles teams advance to the state tournament next weekend in Columbus.
