Fremont Ross, Findlay romp; St. John’s loses

Central Catholic 66, Springfield 14

Derich Weiland and Amir Edwards each scored two touchdowns for Central Catholic to a victory Friday night to open the season.

The Irish rolled up 455 yards (404 rushing and 51 passing) to 147 for Springfield (11 yards rushing and 136 passing).

Edwards gained 136 yards on eight carries. DeShone Kaizer threw a touchdown pass to Weiland.

Other Irish touchdowns were scored by Paul Moses, Cedric Gray, Ryan Roberts, Stephon Campbell, and Marquis Walker. Jacob Studer added a 36-yard field goal.

Elijah Shy ran for a TD for Springfield, while Ty Shy caught a TD pass from Clay Fink.

Fremont Ross 52, Sandusky 18

FREMONT — The Little Giants used a 24-0 second-quarter blitz to cruise.

Fremont Ross QB Tyler Wolf completed 8 of 13 passes for 135 yards and three touchdowns.

Wolf had scoring strikes of 32 and 23 yards to Dylan Starks and added a 27-yard touchdown toss to Jacob Luc on the last play of the first half. In the fourth quarter he added a 31-yard TD run.

The Little Giants finished with 286 yards rushing as Jabree Lather had 183 yards and one TD on 27 carries. Lather also scored on a 78-yard kickoff return.

Sandusky had just 54 yards rushing on 25 attempts. Lucas Will thew TD passes of 73 yards to Mike Delk and 13 yards to Ben Fuller.

Findlay 55, Cleveland East 8

FINDLAY — The Trojans piled up 306 yards and seven touchdowns on 43 rushing attempts to bulldoze the Scarabs.

Vance Settlemire finished with 104 yards on just three carries, scoring on runs of 60 and 42 yards.

Brandon Muehl also scored twice for Finday, reaching the end zone on touchdown runs of 18 and 5 yards, and had 52 yards on six rushing attempts.

Findlay’s other rushing TDs were scored by Austin Niswander, Alex Fletcher, and Jordan Dean. Paul Cosiano added a 25-yard TD toss to Wyatt Krupp.

Meanwhile the Trojans defense limited Cleveland East to just 93 yards of total offense, including just 20 yards passing.

Cleveland Heights 56, St. John’s 24

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS — St. John’s fell behind 42-10 early in the third quarter in a nonconference rout.

Collin Kotre ran for a1-yard touchdown and Louis Fuller rushed for an8-yard score for St. John’s in the loss.
