The City League will add 13 individuals and one team to its hall of fame at the 31st induction banquet on Nov. 5.

Among the inductees are seven male and three female athletes:

Tom Guitteau, who played football at St. Francis de Sales (class of 1959) and at the University of Toledo.

Jim Robinson, who lettered in football and baseball at Woodward (1961) and went on to coach high school basketball, winning 531 games.

John Schneider, who played football and baseball at Libbey (1964), then was a quarterback at UT.

Rick Bechtel, who was a four-time All-City League tennis standout at Rogers (1977) and also lettered in basketball for the Rams.

Todd Dominiak, a two-time City League tennis champion for St. Francis (1984). He played at UT and was a 12-time City of Toledo singles champion.

Lance Price, who played football and ran track at Scott (1986) and competed in both sports at Ohio State.

Sheronda Boyd, who played basketball at DeVilbiss (1987).

Former Central Catholic High School and University of Notre Dame basketball player Ericka Haney, now the Director of Basketball Operations at Louisiana Tech University, is among this year's City League hall of fame inductees.

Ericka Haney, who played basketball and volleyball and ran track at Central Catholic (1998), then started in college at Notre Dame for a team that won the 2001 NCAA championship.

Kelly Hunt, who played baseball and basketball at Central Catholic (1999). He played baseball at Bowling Green State University, where he was named the 2002 Mid-American Conference player of the year. He also playing in the Detroit Tigers' minor-league system.

Courtney Mix Davis, who played basketball and volleyball at Central Catholic (2000), then played basketball at Villanova.

The honored coach will be Diane Rich, who coached basketball, track, tennis, and volleyball at Waite.

The City League Hall of Fame will also honor longtime television sports anchor Dan Cummins of WTOL (Channel 11) as a distinguished citizen.

The league's posthumous award will go to Glyn Smith, who played football at Woodward and UT.

Also joining the hall will be the 2004 Division I state volleyball championship team from St. Ursula coached by John Buck.

The induction ceremonies will be held at the Premier Banquet Hall on Heatherdowns Blvd., on Nov. 5 beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Genoa to induct 7, 1 team

The Genoa athletic hall of fame will induct seven individuals and one team at its banquet Sept. 29.

They will also be honored Sept. 28 prior to the home football game. The inductees are:

Bob Brinkman (class of 1961), basketball; all-district, set school record of 41 points in a game; played at Findlay College.

Pat Dunn (1980), baseball; All-SLL and all-district; Class AA All-Ohio Baseball Series team.

Mike Kaylor (1991); in football was All-Ohio first team and district lineman of the year; in baseball All-SLL second team and team MVP.

Larry Kozak (1969); football; All-Ohio honorable mention; All-NLL first team.

Kelly Lindesmith (2001); basketball; All-Ohio honorable mention; All-SLL; scored 1,487 points; she also played at Tiffin University.

Bob Warring (1927); football, track; second in 100 yards and fourth in 220 at state meet.

Dave Miller (1962-2006); teacher for 44 years; athletic director for 17 years; boys cross country coach for 23 years (247-56 dual meet record); boys track coach for 41 years (206-118 dual meet record); bowling coach for 12 years.

1975 football team coached by Jim Firestone; 10-0, SLL champion; ranked No. 1 in Class AA in Blade poll; outscored opponents 279-32.

Cross country

Stritch Invitational set

The Cardinal Stritch Cross Country Invitational, which is northwest Ohio's second largest regular-season meet, is set for Saturday at Maumee Bay State Park.

The event begins with middle school meets at 8:30 a.m., and the first of six high school meets starts at 9 a.m.

Included in the field are high school teams from Anthony Wayne, Bellevue, Blissfield, Bowling Green, Bowsher, Cardinal Stritch, Clyde, Danbury, Erie Mason, Evergreen, Fremont St. Joseph, Genoa, Gibsonburg, Hicksville, Lake, Margaretta, Maumee, McComb, New Riegel, North Baltimore, Norwalk St. Paul, Oak Harbor, Old Fort, Olmsted Falls-Hearts of Jesus Christ, Otsego, Ottawa Hills, Rogers, Sandusky, Southview, Springfield, Tiffin Calvert, Whiteford, Whitmer, and Woodmore.

The girls and boys Black Division (smaller schools) races are set for 9:00 and 9:40 a.m., respectively, the girls and boys Red Division (larger schools) races are scheduled for 10:20 and 11 a.m., and the girls and boys open races will be held at 11:40 a.m. and 12:20 p.m.

The only area race with a larger number of teams is the prestigious Tiffin Carnival, which is the second biggest meet in the nation.

The defending team champions in the Red races are the Notre Dame girls and Maumee boys, and the 2011 team winners in the Black races were the Elmwood girls and Old Fort boys.

Golf

Otsego takes NBC girls title

Otsego claimed the Northern Buckeye Conference girls golf tournament Monday at Green Hills Golf Club in Clyde, a win that also capped an overall conference championship for the Knights.

Leading the the way for Otsego was tournament medalist Emily Myrice, who shot 92 in the 18-hole event. Also contributing to the winning team total of 402 were Haley Long (97), NBC co-player of the year McKinley Asmus (99), and Maddie Asmus (114).

Myrice and Long joined McKinley Asmus on the All-NBC first team.

The tourney's team runner-up was Elmwood, which shot 412 paced by 93s from first-team All-NBC players Savannah Baker and Taylor Carr. The Royals placed third in the overall conference standings.

Placing second in the overall chase was Genoa, which shot 421 in the tournament, led by a 96 from Rikki Shoemaker.

Rossford and Eastwood placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in both the NBC tournament and the overall season standings.

Rounding out the All-NBC first team was Shannon Parisi of Rossford, who was named conference co-player of the year.

Earning all-NBC second-team honors were Genoa's Shoemaker, Paige Neuman and Maddie Smith, Rossford's Maalaea Newell and Donna Scott, and Elmwood's Sierra Semko.

Otsego also won all four conference shootouts during the season.

Volleyball

Arrows streak ends at 44

St. Ursula -- the 2011 Division I state runner-up and 2010 state champion -- absorbed its first regular-season loss since midway in the 2010 schedule.

The Arrows (10-1), who are ranked No. 2 in the first D-I state coaches poll of the season, lost a back-and-forth duel Saturday against sixth-ranked Cincinnati Ursuline 26-28, 25-23, 25-23 in the first match of an invitational at Vandalia Butler.

St. Ursula had reeled off 44 consecutive regular-season victories after dropping a match to then top-ranked defending state champion Ursuline in 2010.

The Arrows closed that season with 13 regular-season wins, plus seven more in tourney play to take the 2010 title and finish 28-1.

St. Ursula then went 22-0 last season, and entered tournament play as the top-ranked team. The Arrows won six tourney matches before falling to Cincinnati Mt. Notre Dame in the 2011 state championship match.

Earlier this season the Arrows survived a tough battle with 2011 Division II state champion Columbus Bishop Hartley, winning 25-14, 20-25, 25-16, 16-25, 15-12.
