Dublin Jerome wins boys, girls championships

COLUMBUS — Dublin Jerome scored one-stroke victories to win Division I state golf championships in both boys and girls competition Saturday at Ohio State University.

The Jerome boys shot a 36-hole total of 630 to edge team runner-up Centerville (631) on the OSU Scarlet Course, and the Jerome girls finished at 629 to squeeze by second-place Medina Highland (630).

Dublin Coffman's Nick Sparling earned boys state medalist honors with a two-round total of 145, and Highland's Jessica Porvasnik was the girls medalist at 140.

The St. Ursula girls ended up 11th in the 12-team state field, and the Arrows’ low scorer was sophomore Kathryn Young, who tied for 40th place at 171.

The St. Francis de Sales boys were 12th in the team standings at 686, and seniors Hayden Austin and Lee Rinker were low for the Knights with matching 170s.

Findlay's boys team placed 11th in the 12-team state field at 677, paced by team low scorer Eli Stacy, a senior who tied for 12th at 161. The Trojan girls, who finished 12th, were topped by senior Taylor Tweed, who tied for 45th place at 174.
