Genoa Comets claim outright crown

Genoa 21, Eastwood 10

PEMBERVILLE — A late fumble recovery by Kyle Nutter helped undefeated Genoa outlast Eastwood on Friday night and earn an outright Northern Buckeye Conference championship.

Nutter returned a fumble 60 yards for a touchdown with 5:15 left in the fourth quarter to seal the victory for the Comets (10-9, 7-0 NBC). Nutter had 152 yards rushing on 22 carries, including a 55-yard TD runs.

David Nutter rushed for a six-yard touchdown run to put Genoa up 14-7 in the second quarter.

It was Genoa’s fourth 10-0 regular-season finish in the last five years, winning this year’s title under first-year coach Tim Spiess.

Devin Snowden led Eastwood with 122 yards rushing on 26 carries, including a 43-yard TD scamper. He also added a 37-yard field goal in the third quarter to cut the lead to 14-10.


Lake 63, Woodmore 42

MILLBURY — Jake Rettig threw for 545 yards and six touchdowns and rushed for 106 yards and two more scores for the Flyers.

Rettig threw three TDs to Connor Bowen, who finished with 223 yards receiving, and a 40-yard TD to Ben Swartz, who finished wtih 113 yards. Rettig also threw two TD passes to Todd Walters (6 and 20 yards).

Rettig’s rushing TD werefrom 22 and 21 yards out. Chris Salaz had a 12-yard TD run for Lake (4-6, 3-4 NBC).

Woodmore's Jake Mapwiejczyk threw for 302 yards and three TDs, connecting with Zach Brossia (18 yards), and twice with Evan Ulinski (four and 59 yards). Mapwiejczyk ran for two scores (49, 18 yards).

Zach Sandwisch scored on an 88-yard kickoff return for Woodmore (4-6, 3-4).


Rossford 43, Fostoria 0

Ryan Clay and Ian Stolar combined on all six Rossford touchdowns in a convincing home win.

Clay rushed 20 times for 144 yards and scores from 14 and 13 yards. Stolar carried 16 times for 112 yards and three TDs, including scoring runs of 10, 1 and 2 yards.

Clay, who threw for 139 yards, hit Stolar on a 27-yard TD pass.

Rossford (6-4, 4-3) added a safety and limited Fostoria (0-10, 0-7) to 103 total yards.


Otsego 45, Elmwood 8

BLOOMDALE — Ryan Smoyer was 21 of 37 for 354 passing and four touchdowns (8, 26, 6, and 92 yards) for the Knights. He also rushed for 10 yard run.

Cody Downs scored two TDs. Jerome Griffin had five catches for 203 yards and two TDs.

A.C. Limes had a TD catch.

Otsego (6-4, 5-2) had 434 yards (80 rushing and 354 passing). Elmwood (4-6, 2-5) had 149 yards (64 rushing, 84 passing).
