ONTARIO — The Eastwood volleyball team saw its season come to an end in the Division II regional semifinals last night at Ontario High School.

The Eagles dropped just their fourth match of the season. No. 1- ranked Parma Padua Franciscan defeated Eastwood 25-6, 25-13, and 26-24 in the regional semifinal.

Eastwood (23-4) won its fourth straight league championship and rose to a No. 12 ranking in the state polls.

The Eagles won the final two Suburban Lakes League championships and then won the Northern Buckeye Conference the last two seasons.

Eastwood had won six straight games heading into the regional semis.

But Parma Padua Franciscan (23-2) proved to be too much as it advances to the regional championship against Norwalk (24-2) on Saturday.

■ ELIDA — The impressive tournament run of Cardinal Stritch in the Division IV volleyball tournament ended at the hands of sixth-ranked New Washington Buckeye Central Wednesday night, as the Cardinals (18-9) fell 25-13, 25-17, 25-15 in a regional semifinal at Elida High School.

Sara Turner-Smith led the Cards with 13 kills and 11 digs, and teammate Briyanna Axtell added five kills in Stritch’s first advancement to a regional since 1999. Buckeye Central is 25-2.
