Balanced effort sparks Wildcats to victory

NAPOLEON — Na­po­leon used a bal­anced of­fen­sive at­tack and a good de­fen­sive ef­fort to win in the open­ing round of the Divi­sion III play­offs.

Nate Rohrs opened the scor­ing for the Wild­cats with a 45-yard fum­ble re­cov­ery and re­turn for a touch­down. Char­lie Har­ris and Jor­dan Lauf added touch­downs on the ground from seven and 18 yards, re­spec­tively. Joey Dev­aul kicked a 20-yard field goal, and David Yunker tossed a four-yard touch­down to Zach Fielder to close the scor­ing.

David Yunker com­pleted 10 of 19 passes for 96 yards and an in­ter­cep­tion.

Bry­ant Schlade led the ground game for Na­po­leon with 14 car­ries for 51 yards. Har­ris added 14 car­ries for 47 yards.

Lauf was the lead­ing re­ceiver for the Wild­cats with three catches for 42 yards.

The Na­po­leon de­fense held River Val­ley to 131 yards of to­tal of­fense and a lone touch­down.

BRYAN — Austin Schim­moeller con­trolled the game for Bryan, pass­ing for 233 yards and three touch­downs and rush­ing for two scores in the Divi­sion III play­offs.

Schim­moeller threw TD passes of four, nine, and 27 yards and ran in from one and 27 yards, re­spec­tively. The Bryan de­fense was op­por­tu­nis­tic forc­ing four Wat­ter­son turn­overs in­clud­ing a 45-yard fum­ble re­cov­ery and re­turn for a touch­down by Da­kota McNany.
