Clay third, Perrysburg fourth in Division I district wrestling

Screptock lone champion for Eagles

CLEVELAND — Clay placed third with 173 points and Perrysburg (118) took fourth in the Division I district tournament at Cleveland State University.

Clay sophomore Richie Screptock was the Eagles’ lone individual champion, beating Elyria’s Ben Darmstadt by an 11-6 decision in the 120-pound final.

The only other individual champion from northwest Ohio was Whitmer senior Marquise Moore, who stayed unbeaten on the season at 33-0 with a 7-4 decision over Perrysburg sophomore Cale Bonner in the 285-pound title match.

Clay senior Damon Dominique was runner-up at 152 pounds, and junior teammate Nick Stencel was runner-up at 160.

Also qualifying for the state tournament from Clay were Jared Davis (fourth at 113), Eddie Silva (fourth at 182), Jarred Gray (third at 220), and Antonio Zapata (fouth at 285). Perrysburg’s other qualifiers were Mario Guillen (third at 106), J.P. Newton (third at 152), and Rocco Caywood (fourth at 170). Sam Burns of St. Francis de Sales was third at 285.
