Maumee expects to hire Gibson
Former Clyde coach went 70-22 in 8 seasons with Fliers
4/19/2013Maumee High School plans to hire former Clyde coach Marc Gibson as its new football coach.
A recommendation will be made to hire Gibson at the district’s board of education meeting on Monday.
Gibson coached at Clyde for the last eight years, compiling a 70-22 record. He led the Fliers to six Sandusky Bay Conference championships and four playoff appearances.
Prior to Clyde, Gibson was the head coach at Sidney (2001-2004) and Brookville (1997-2000).
Gibson replaces John Boles, who stepped down in December. Boles finish with a record of 86-73 in 15 seasons at Maumee and led the Panthers to six playoff appearances. Boles also coached at Genoa (73-47 record) and one year at Northwood (7-3). He had a 166-123 career record.
Gibson has coached for 21 years, including 16 seasons as a head coach. He has an overall record of 111-60 as a head coach. His teams have won seven conference championships and have made six playoff appearances.
“Marc will be an excellent addition to both our teaching and coaching staff, and we are looking forward to him beginning work with our students this summer,” Maumee athletic director Matt Szyndler said.
On Friday, Gibson said he could not comment until after the hiring is made official.
Maumee went 6-4 last fall.
Gibson was district coach of the year in 2000, 2005, and 2007, when his teams reached the regional finals.
The Fliers went 6-4 last season.
