Junior wins Division 4 long jump, 200 meters

HUDSONVILLE, Mich. — Whiteford junior Miranda Johnson captured her second straight state title in the long jump and also won the 200-meter dash Saturday.

Johnson's leap was 18 feet, 2½ inches to set a Division 4 state track and field meet record, breaking the previous mark of 17-11.

Johnson captured the 200 in 25.94 seconds. She also was runner-up in the 100 (12.86) to lead the Bobcats to a sixth-place finish in the team standings with 31 points. It was the program's highest finish at state.

Johnson anchored the 400 relay team, which tied for 16th.

Whiteford senior Olivia Overmann finished sixth in the discus with a throw of 98-7.

Bobcats coach Jim Hojnacki said Johnson came close to reaching 19 feet in the long jump.

“It was a very nice day for her,” Hojnacki said.

“She had much better ones, but scratched when she went over the toe board. That was in to a dead head wind.”

Summerfield's Josh Golkiewitz was eighth in the 100 at 11.82 and seventh in the 200 (23.90).
