Prep track review: Finish on top 

Whiteford’s Johnson, Findlay’s Brown each win 2 state track and field titles

Two is better than one. For two area athletes, winning two state track and field championships was certainly better. Findlay senior Tyler Brown and Whiteford junior Miranda Johnson each came away as double winners at their state meets this season. Brown collected two state titles at the Division I state meet in Columbus. Prep baseball review: Regional rush

Knights’ great season includes 26-game winning streak; Genoa, Northwood advance far

St. Francis de Sales proved to be the area’s top Division I baseball team this season, even though the Knights were unable to secure a playoff title in the Three Rivers Athletic Conference.

The Knights (29-3), who were ranked No. 4 in the final D-I state coaches poll, were paced by first-team All-Ohio selection Eric Zmuda and second-team All-Ohioan Max Lyon.

The Knights went 10-0 in regular-season TRAC play as part of a 26-game winning streak. St. Francis topped Clay 4-0 to win the district championship, then defeated Northern Lakes League champion Perrysburg 10-5 in the regional semifinals before falling to eventual state runner-up Cleveland St. Ignatius 14-0 in the regional final in Parma. Prep tennis review: Browns play big

St. John's Brown brothers 4th in Division I doubles

St. John’s Jesuit junior Ryan Brown and sophomore Kevin Brown were the only area players to advance to the final day of competition at the state tennis tournament.

The Brown brothers were within a point of reaching the state final. But after leading 6-5 in the second set with a match point, the Titans fell to Sycamore’s Dylan Stern and Deepak Indrakanti in the semifinal. READ MORE


Prep softball review: Year of the Eagles

Eastwood reaches state semifinals for first time; Clay advances to regional final

Eastwood reached the state tournament in softball for the first time in school history. The Eagles (29-4) captured a Division III regional title with an 11-6 win over Magnolia Sandy Valley. But Eastwood, ranked No. 6 in Ohio, fell 11-1 in five innings in the state semifinals to No. 1-ranked Bloom-Carroll, which went on to win the D-III state title.

Clay (26-4), ranked No. 6 in the state poll, reached the Division I regional final for the first time since 2009. Clay dropped a 4-1 decision to Elyria (27-5).

Clay defeated Anthony Wayne 4-3 in the D-I regional semifinals. The Generals rallied to tie the game in the top of the seventh, but Clay won on senior Lindsay Schiavone's walk-off single. READ MORE
