ABOUT THE TEAM:

Coach: Derek Kidwell, 10th year

Last season: 3-7, 1-6 TRAC

Returning letter winners: 15

Returning starters: Offense 6, defense 5

Schemes: Pro-I/4-3 stack

Top players: Seniors Kole Amor, 5-10, 220, DE; Hunter Trautwein, 6-1, 215, DE; Jarvis Jones, 6-5, 250, OT.

Outlook: The Little Giants look to rebound after a tough 2012 season that saw injuries and other negatives turn a potentially promising season into a disappointing one. Kidwell will be counting on his offensive line, and his pair of defensive ends as the backbone of the team.

But depth on both lines, the graduation of three-year QB starter Tyler Wolf, and an unproven kicking game may be three major obstacles in making any significant climb in the TRAC standings.

Ross began optimistically with a 2-0 start last season, then dropped seven of its final eight games, six by 20 or more points. That finish, combined with losses to graduation, led Kidwell to install a more basic approach offensively and defensively this season.

“We will be a run-first offense, and play very hard and physical on defense,” said Kidwell, who hopes his team can bounce back by utilizing strong fundamental football.
