ABOUT THE TEAM

Coach: Steve Reser, fourth year

Last season: 4-6, 4-3 TAAC

Returning letter winners: 15

Returning starters: Offense 5, defense 5

Schemes: Spread/4-2-5

Top players: Seniors Jacob Auld, 6-2, 190, OL-DL; Isaih Arriaga, 5-7, 150, WR-DB. Juniors Matt Tille, 5-11, 185, QB; Derek Angelone, 6-1, 165, WR-LB; Tyler Hovis, 5-9, 190, OL-LB; A.J. Blausey, 5-8, 180, RB-LB.

Outlook: The Golden Bears made a solid charge late last season, winning four of their final five games after an 0-5 start. Many of the key figures in that run are back. But, only six of the 38 players are seniors, and the chief concern is inexperience on the offensive line.

Gibsonburg will rely heavily on its offensive skill personnel, led by Tille, who topped the TAAC in rushing in 2012 with 878 yards, and scored 13 touchdowns. He also completed 73 of 179 passes for 951 yards and 12 TDs. Angelone had 31 catches for 410 yards, Isaih contributed seven TDs, and Blausey rushed for 286 yards.

“We need to put a good offensive line out on the field,” Reser said. “We need to put the pieces in the right places to finish that puzzle. We have potential. We need to win a couple nonleague games to prepare for the TAAC schedule.”
