ABOUT THE TEAM:

Coach: Britton Devier, fourth year

Last season: 4-6, 2-5 NBC

Returning letter winners: 10

Returning starters: Offense 7, defense 7

Schemes: Spread/Multiple 3-4

Top players: Seniors Jake Matweijczyk SR 5-11, 200 QB; Evan Ulinski 5-5, 141, WR/DB; Dan Sprinksi, 6-1, 165, DB. Sophomore Zach Sandwisch, 6-2, 205, MLB.

Outlook: The senior class has considerable playing experience.

“We return the core of the offense and many starters on defense,” Devier said.

Matweijczyk earned all-district honorable mention after throwing for 2,107 yards and rushing for 910.

Ulinski made 43 catches for 534 yards (12.4 per catch) and nine TDs to earn All-NBC second team.

Sandwisch made 52 tackles as a freshman. Sprinksi was All-NBC honorable mention as a defensive back.

But Devier must replace key loses on the offensive and defensive lines.

“We are returning a lot of kids with experience but will have to replace several key positions ,” Devier said. “We expect our sophomores and juniors to step up. This team is a tight bunch who will play together through anything. We will need to have a strong nonleague showing to get us set up for play in the always tough NBC.”

Devier has 48 players, including 11 seniors, who will try to win the school's first championship since the Wildcats won three straight Suburban Lakes League titles form 1995-97.

“Our 2013 squad is looking to change the reputation of Woodmore football,” Devier said.
