Eastwood 40, Patrick Henry 21

HAMLER — Jake Schmeltz passed for three touchdowns and ran for another Friday night to lead the Eagles in a season-opening victory.

Schmeltz threw TD passes of 55 yards to Brennan Siefert, 5 yards to Grant Peters, and 12 yards to Devin Snowden, who also ran for a 11-yard score. Grant Geiser added a 27-yard TD run. Schmeltz completed 6 of 10 passes for 108 yards.

Patrick Henry was led by Tobey Hernandez, who ran for 140 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries. Kollin Spence caught a 64-yard TD pass from Neil Storch.

The Patriots committed six turnovers — three fumble, three interceptions — and outgained Eastwood 373-258 in the loss.

 

Otsego 36, Evergreen 14

METAMORA — Otsego senior quarterback Cody Downs passed for two touchdowns and ran for two more to lead the Knights.

Downs passed for 122 yards and rushed for 82 yards on 20 carries and two TDs. He tossed TD strikes of 59 and 47 yards.

Evergreen's Logan Pinkleman scored on a two-yard run to tie it at 7 in the first quarter. Pinkleman then intercepted a pass and returned 47 yards to give Evergreen a 14-7 lead.

But Otsego scored four unanswered touchdowns.

Cole Gorski caught a 59-yard pass to tie it at 14. Downs one-yard rush in the second quarter gave Otsego the lead for good.

Austin Rohleder then scored on a 47-yard pass from Downs, who scored again in the third.

Otsego's Riley Tercha opened the scoring when he returned a fumble 47 yards.

The Knights had 252 total yards (130 rushing and 122 passing) and held Evergreen to 137 (129 rushing and 8 passing).

 

Lake 21, Fremont St. Joseph 0

Millbury — The Flyers turned in a stellar defensive effort.

Nick Walsh paced the Lake ground game, scampering 77 yards for a touchdown and finishing with 162 yards. Branden Short scored on a six-yard run. Jared Rettig had a one-yard TD run.

Lake compiled 374 total yards to 126 for St. Joseph. The Flyers ran for 251 yards to the Streaks’ 67.

Adam Duncan converted on all three point-after touchdown kicks for Lake, and also intercepted a pass.

 

Woodmore 55, Port Clinton 7

ELMORE — Jake Matwiejczyk passed for 186 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 200 yards and three touchdowns for the Wildcats.

Dan Sprinski and Brad Bringman caught touchdown passes of 17 yards and 13 yards, respectively.

Sprinski also recovered a Port Clinton fumble in the end zone for a touchdown.

Tony Rozzi and Todd Williams added rushing TDs for the Wildcats.

Tristen Mallory ran in from one yard out for Port Clinton's only score.

 

Gibsonburg 35, Elmwood 13

BLOOMDALE — Quarterback Matt Tille completed 9 of 12 passes for four touchdowns for the Golden Bears.

Tille also ran 10 times for 55 yards and one score as Gibsonburg led 22-0 at halftime. He threw TD passes of 13 and 2 yards to Adam Copley, then connected with Isiah Arriaga on 37 and 45-yard TD passes.

Aaron Arnold and Austin Isaacs had TD runs for Elmwood.

 

Ottawa-Glandorf 55, Fostoria 0

FOSTORIA — Logan Rieman threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more for Ottawa-Glandorf. Brad Racer added two touchdown runs.

Fostoria managed just eight first downs and totaled 142 yards of offense.

Maurice Haskins rushed for 37 yards for the Redmen and Dominique Fuller passed for 59 yards.
