Collins rushes for 208 yards, Bowsher stays unbeaten with 38-3 win over Northview

Bowsher running back Khane Collins broke loose from a few would-be tacklers early Friday night against Northview.

And it was clear the Rebels were on track to break free from an early-season habit of falling behind opponents.

Collins gained 119 of his 208 rushing yards before halftime to help visiting Bowsher take a commanding 23-3 advantage into halftime and roll to a decisive 38-3 victory over Northview at Cats Stadium.

"That felt good going into the locker room being ahead on the scoreboard because we already know how to play in the second half," said Collins, who scored his first TD of the season when he plunged into the end zone from three yards out for a 31-3 lead midway through the third quarter. "It just felt good. We executed the whole game."

The Rebels (3-0) and have won eight straight dating back to last season when they finished on a five-game win streak to clinch their first City League championship since 1979.

Bowsher coach Craig Lubinski was pleased to see the Rebels jump out early on the Wildcats (1-2) and take control. The Rebels needed to climb out of halftime deficits to defeat Maumee and Springfield.

Bowsher led 17-0 before Wildcats kicker Ross Hanna booted a 28-yard field goal in the second quarter.

"Finally, we came out and played the way we expected to play all season," Lubinski said. "We finally put it together.

"I put the challenge to them before the game and said, 'Let's see if we can be a first-half team this week guys, and see if we can get some stuff done.' And they did."

Bowsher's Phoenix Reed blocks Northview's Raymond Martinek punt in the second quarter. Reed picked up the ball and scored a touchdown.

Mark Washington saw limited carries, but still managed to finish with 56 yards on eight carries, including touchdown runs of 29 and four yards. His first touchdown capped off Bowsher's first possession when it marched 80 yards on seven plays .

Bowsher’s Braiden Greisiger made it 9-0 when he kicked a 30-yard field goal with 8:08 left in the second quarter.

The Rebels' special teams pushed their lead to 17-0 when Phoenix Reid blocked a punt attempt by Raymond Martinek and picked up the loose ball off a bounce and carried it into the end zone from 15 yards out with 5:59 left in the first half.

Bowsher quarterback Mac Jewell also contributed to the running game when he finished off the final drive in the first half with a 21-yard TD run with 32 seconds to play.

"That was fun," Jewell said. "I don't run that much, but when you see green grass I've got to take it."

The offensive line led by Justus Satterfield and Ty Valentine made it that kind of night for the Bowsher backs.

The Rebels defense posted a second straight shutout in the second half of a contest. Kolton Davis intercepted a pass by Northview quarterback Derek Hullibarger in the third quarter.
