Yellow Jackets cruise to victory over Bobcats 42-2

BOWLING GREEN — In his first rushing attempt since separating his shoulder three weeks ago, Perrysburg’s Mark Delas went 46 yards for a touchdown through a wet, grassy field.

It was that kind of night for the Yellow Jackets, who routed Bowling Green 42-2 Friday night in a Northern Lakes League football game.

“I was ready to get back, I couldn’t wait any longer,” Delas said. “Running behind this offensive line is awesome.”

Perrysburg wasted no time taking the lead going 73 yards on four plays in its first possession. Zach Honsberger’s 44-yard rush on the third play of the game got Perrysburg in a position to score, and Gus Dimmerling’s 11-yard TD scamper finished the drive.

Following the Delas touchdown on the second possession, J.P. Newton made it 21-0 with a seven-yard TD run with 2:35 left in the first quarter.

“In the trenches on the line they dominated,” BG coach Scott Seeliger said. “We played a better program tonight, but I am disappointed we weren’t more physical.”

Bowling Green showed some life coming out of halftime. After a penalty put Perrysburg on its own 5-yard line to start the third quarter, the Yellow Jackets’ Scott Freeman was tackled in the end zone on an sweep for a safety.

On the ensuing possession the Bobcats drove down to the Perrysburg 10 on long runs by quarterback Ricky Riggs. But Riggs then threw two incompletions and the drive stalled.

Delas — a three-year starter at linebacker — also had several tackles for loss and recovered a fumble in the second quarter. Just after Delas recovered the fumble Kadin Llewellyn rushed 32-yard TD run to make it 35-0.

“In his second practice this week you could tell he was back to being Mark,” Perrysburg coach Matt Kregel said of Delas. “He had no fear.”

Delas rushed for 75 yards on just four carries. Dimmerling had 10 carries for 66 yards and two TDs and completed 5 of 7 passes for 129 yards and a touchdown — a 60-yard strike to Freeman.

David Espen led BG’s offense on the ground with 15 carries for 45 yards.

“I was happy with our performance," Kregal said. "It was important to get the bad taste out of our mouth after last week.”
