Notre Dame senior Jayda Worthy made a verbal commitment to play basketball at Radford (Va.) University.

The 5-foot-11 forward, who was named to the All-Blade team, has helped the Eagles make two trips to the Division I state tournament. Notre Dame has won back-to-back Three Rivers Athletic Conference titles.

Last season she had averaged a team-leading 13.5 points, while grabbing 7.1 rebounds.

Notre Dame coach Travis Galloway said Worthy decided to attend the Division I college that plays in the Big South Conference not long after returning from an official recruiting visit.

“I’m excited for her and her family to get that whole process behind her,” Galloway said. “It was her only official visit that she had taken, and she just liked it there. She felt very connected with the coaching staff right away and the players right away.

“They’re going to get somebody who is going to produce. She’s a three-year starter and is a kid who just puts up numbers. She’s a great defender who can guard multiple positions.”

It’s been a memorable season for Springfield girls tennis coach Gina Ciminillo.

In her 13th year, Ciminillo reached 100 career victories when the Blue Devils defeated Maumee.

Springfield has 23 players on the varsity and junior varsity teams, and it was the first victory over the Cougars in 10 years. The Devils also won the Jack Wallington Tennis Classic, an event they hosted.

Heading into the NLL tournament Mauriello owns a 11-8 record. No. 2 singles player Nikki Geiser is 10-8, while No. 1 doubles Haley Baxter and Sulli Sanders are 8-7. All are juniors, except Sanders, who is a freshman.

“I think it’s all coming together,” Ciminillo said. “I’ve got a lot of young kids coming through the lineup.”
