Late TD lifts Green Bears to victory over Cardinals

TC’s Freeman rushes for 237 yards, throws for 194

Ottawa Hills 21, Cardinal Stritch 14

Austin Stevens’ four-yard touchdown run with just 21 seconds left Friday night lifted the Green Bears past the Cardinals in a Toledo Area Athletic Conference game Friday at Clay.

Ottawa Hills (2-5, 2-2 TAAC) began its 82-yard, game-winning drive with 1 minute, 43 seconds to play. A 31-yard pass to Jack Wollenburg (six catches, 94 yards) and a 29-yard pass to Jake Swafford helped set up the winning score.

Stevens completed 13 of 21 passes for 215 yards, which included a 79-yard TD pass to Eric Gross. Andrew Boesel scored the other TD for Ottawa Hills on a two-yard run.

For Stritch (0-7, 0-4), Brooks Gasser completed 10 of 27 passes for 146 yards, which included a 71-yard TD strike to Chris Blazebich. James Dobson scored the Cardinals’ other TD on a one-yard run during the fourth quarter, helping to knot the score at 14.

Toledo Christian 29, Gibsonburg 15

Brett Freeman accounted for 431 yards, factored in all four touchdowns, and booted a 20-yard field goal as the Eagles (5-2, 4-0) won at home.

Freeman ran for 237 yards on 25 carries and had a 12-yard TD run. He also completed 11 of 23 passes for 194 yards and three touchdowns — two to Kyle Kempton (five catches, 83 yards) and then one to Matt Brumbaugh (four catches, 87 yards).

Gibsonburg (3-4, 2-2) scored on a 12-yard run by AJ Blausey and a 25-yard pass from Matt Tille to Derek Angelone.

Edon 54, Hilltop 7

WEST UNITY — Kaden Sapp passed for five touchdowns and rushed for another for Edon (5-2, 2-2).

Sapp finished 11-of-20 passing for 359 yards. Connor Hug caught four passes for 125 yards and two touchdowns. Landon Bloir, Brock Thiel, and Michael Peeples also caught TD passes.

Trevor Green rushed for two TDs and 90 yards on 10 carries.

Chad Champion rushed for 105 yards and scored the only touchdown for Hilltop (1-6, 0-4) on a 95-yard run.

Northwood 48, Danbury 19

LAKESIDE — Jake Davenport rushed for two touchdowns for Northwood (5-2, 4-0), scoring on runs of 41 and 20 yards.

Dominik Bermejo rushed for 92 yards, including a 16-yard TD scamper. He also caught a 64-yard TD pass from Michael Vallejo. Vallejo hit Scott Slater on a 13-yard TD strike and ran in for a six-yard TD.

Joey Woody added a 59-yard TD run for the Rangers.

Seth Vargo passed for two touchdowns and rushed for another for Danbury (2-5, 1-3).
