Start’s Avion Boyd rushed for 84 yards on five carries, and Jaquan Hughes added 64 yards to power the Spartans on Friday night in a City League game.

Boyd scored on runs of 58 and 40 yards and scored a third time on a 45-yard pass from Brandon Winters for Start (3-4, 2-0 CL).

Devantae Hibler was the leading rusher for the Indians (1-6, 1-1) with 60 yards.

Woodward 6, Rogers 2

The Polar Bears scored on the first possession of the game and then forced three turnovers in the second half at Rogers.

On a fourth-and-eight play, quarterback Darius Flemming connected with James Martin on a 35-yard pass for the only touchdown of the game.

Woodward (2-5, 1-1) did not turn the ball over. Rogers (1-6, 0-2) got a safety when the Polar Bears tried to punt from their own end zone.

Kelvon Lee had an interception in the second half. Martin then sealed the game with a pick with only 1 minute, 45 seconds left in the game.

It was Woodward’s first City League victory since 2007.
