Rangers roll to take outright championship

Northwood 69, Cardinal Stritch 7

Dominik Bermejo rushed for 153 yards and three touchdowns on Friday night as Northwood clinched an outright Toledo Area Athletic Conference championship.

It is the third straight TAAC title for the Rangers.

Michael Vallejo rushed for 92 yards and two TDs and also threw a 32-yard TD pass to Jake Davenport. Davenport scored on a four-yard run, and Antoine Brown rushed in from 10 yards out.

Chanlor Hayes added a three-yard TD run as Northwood (8-2, 7-0 TAAC) rushed for 350 yards. Jacob Zieroff had a 40-yard interception return for a TD.

Austin Wlodarz scored on a two-yard run for Stritch (0-10, 0-7).

 

Edon 40, Gibsonburg 21

GIBSONBURG — Kaden Sapp paced the Bombers (8-2, 6-1) to the road win, completing 16 of 25 passes for 265 yards and three touchdowns and rushing 22 times for 179 yards and three scores.

Connor Hug was on the receiving end of all three Sapp scoring strikes — 32, 10, and 22 yards. Hug finished with nine catches for 165 yards. Sapp ran for scores of 6, 5, and 1 yards.

Matt Tille of the Golden Bears (5-5, 4-3) threw for 252 yards and three TDs — two to Isiah Arriaga and one to Adam Copley.

 

Toledo Christian 27, Ottawa Hills 21

The Eagles broke out to a 13-0 first-quarter edge, then held on for the victory in a game played at Springfield.

Junior QB Brett Freeman had a hand in all the TC scoring, with an 18-yard TD run, two one-yard scoring runs, and a 21-yard TD down toss to Matt Brumbaugh. Freeman ran 23 times for 165 yards and was 9-of-17 passing for 147 more. Caleb Wotring ran 107 yards for the Eagles (6-4, 5-2).

For the Green Bears (3-7, 3-4), Jake Swafford scored on runs of 22, 11, and 8 yards.

 

Danbury 38, Hilltop 35

LAKESIDE — Danbury led 35-7 and withstood a late Hilltop rally to secure a win. James Dorko connected on a 20-yard field goal in the fourth quarter that proved to be the difference.

Seth Vargo threw two touchdown passes and ran for two more. Vargo hit Jim Chamberlin on both TD passes (36 and 70 yards).

Cody German tallied 29 carries for 229 yards, which included a 19-yard TD run.

Quinn Smith of Hilltop (2-8, 1-6) threw four touchdown passes, including two to Chad Champion (38 and 47 yards). Smith also ran for a six-yard score.
