Perrysburg High School's starting quarterback, leading rusher, and starting defensive back Gus Dimmerling broke two ribs in the last game and will be out of the program's first ever second round game Friday.
On the second to last play of the game against Akron Ellet on Friday, he suffered the injury.
Perrysburg coach Matt Kregel said sophomore Trevor Hafner will take over for Dimmerling when Perrysburg (9-2) meets Avon (11-0) in a Division II football second-round playoff game at 7:30 Friday at Huron High School.
Dimmerling had two rushing touchdowns, and a passing touchdown as Perrysburg won its first playoff game in its third attempt. He set a school season record with 1,688 passing yards, and also rushed for a team-high 1,207 yards and 15 TDs. He had 25 carries in the playoff game.
