Central meets familiar opponent in Columbian

Central Catholic is very familiar with its second-round opponent in the Division III football playoffs.

The Irish scrimmage Tiffin Columbian each year in the preseason, and three times during Greg Dempsey’s 14 seasons as coach, the Irish have met the Tornadoes in the postseason.

 

QB Dimmerling out as Perrysburg faces Avon

The most successful season in Perrysburg football history continues Friday, but the Yellow Jackets will be without their main weapon in a Division II second-round game.

Perrysburg (9-2) meets undefeated Avon (11-0), the No. 3 ranked team in the state, at 7:30 p.m. at Huron Memorial Stadium. But the team’s all-everything quarterback, Gus Dimmerling, will not be able to play after breaking two ribs last week.

 

Kicking Mules look to advance to state semifinals

Bedford believes it has what it takes to hang with the state’s best, and the Mules are just one of eight teams left playing in Michigan’s Division I.

An inspirational season continues Friday when Bedford hosts perhaps the biggest game in school history. In the path is juggernaut Novi Detroit Catholic Central, a power with a long tradition of producing state championships and Division I college players.

 

Bryan in battle of unbeatens for 2nd consecutive week

For the second straight week, Bryan faces an undefeated team in the Division IV football playoffs

The Golden Bears (11-0) face the region’s top-seeded Caledonia River Valley (11-0) at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Findlay Donnell Stadium, one week after getting past Genoa 43-36 with a last-minute touchdown.
