Irish hold back Cougars, win season opener

Central Catholic 54, Southview 50

Alissa Galernik scored 10 of her team-high 17 points in the fourth quarter as Central Catholic won its season opener at home.

Taryn Stanley led Southview (1-2) with 17 points, and Kennedy Moody added 10 points.

Anthony Wayne 52, Wauseon 33

Victoria Burdo tallied 14 points and Sara Zankl added 12 for the Generals.

Maddie Richer had 16 for the Indians.

Rossford 54, Maumee 36

Margo Jackson scored 14 points for Rossford, and Julie Hotz added 10 as the Bulldogs won on the road.

Kalena Harris paced Maumee with 13 points, and Abbi Schultz scored 11 points.

Whitmer 57, Springfield 49

Keshyra McCarver scored 16 points and Abby Sarabia added 13 points as Whitmer won a road contest.

Natalie Yoder paced Springfield with 17 points, and Jewel Rollins added 14 points.

Bedford 54, St. Ursula 43

TEMPERANCE — Nicole Rightnowar poured in 16 points as Bedford won its season opener.

Megan Burns tallied 17 points to lead St. Ursula (1-1).

Bowling Green 67, Elmwood 40

BOWLING GREEN — Hanna Williford poured in 21 points to lead the Bobcats (3-1).

Kendal Glandorff and Tyanna Smith scored 12 points each, and Livvy Dill added 10 points for Bowling Green.

Kristin Curtis tallied 11 points for Elmwood (1-2).

Swanton 51, Fayette 50

SWANTON — The Indians used balanced scoring to hold off Fayette at home in a back-and-forth game.

Megyn Christiansen led Swanton (2-2) with 13 points, Emily Callicotte added 12 points, and Maicie Wheeler finished with 10.

Fayette (4-2) got a game-high 18 points from Kaela Seiler and 14 more from Alexis Fruchey.

Woodmore 52, Gibsonburg 42

ELMORE — The Wildcats improved to 2-3 as MacKenzie Johnson scored 19 points and Allie Wank added 16 points, 11 rebounds, and seven steals.

Marisa Alvarado scored 16 points to lead Gibsonburg, and Brittany Holcomb added 10.

Fremont St. Joseph 31, Danbury 17

LAKESIDE — Fremont St. Joseph used an 18-7 second-half advantage to secure a win in a low-scoring contest.

Ashley Burns paced the Streaks (3-2) with nine points.

Megan Stephens led Danbury (1-2) with eight points.

Wayne Trace 52, Bryan 44

BRYAN — Bryan outscored Wayne Trace 17-9 during the fourth quarter but fell short.

Brenda Feasby scored 15 points to lead Wayne Trace, and Erin Mohr added 14.

Hannah Schimmoeller paced Bryan with 15 points, while Nicole Scantlen added 10 points.
