Johnson’s shot lifts Polar Bears over Waite

Woodward 51, Scott 49

Nikki Johnson converted a layup with two seconds remaining Wednesday night to lift the Polar Bears to a City League girls basketball victory at Scott.

K’Shawna Barnett led Woodward (4-9, 4-3 CL) with 20 points, and Johnson added 11.

The Bulldogs (5-6, 2-5) were paced by Myleena White’s 22 points, and Symone Palmer and Essence Johnson added 10 points apiece.

 

Waite 45, Bowsher 30

The Indians grabbed a 15-7 lead after one quarter and cruised to a victory in the City League.

Yatiah Caldwell topped Waite (3-4, 5-8 CL) with 15 points, and Ramiyah Henry and Taylor Works contributed 11 points each for the Indians.

Isis Dixon paced the Rebels (0-7, 0-13), finishing with 14 points.

 

Rogers 62, Start 30

The Rams shot out to a 32-9 halftime lead and coasted behind 13 points from Sasha Dailey.

Rogers (12-4, 7-0 CL) also got 11 points from Akienreh Johnson.

The Spartans (6-6, 5-2) were led by five points from Kendra Jones.

 

Bedford 57, Ann Arbor Skyline 34

Rachel Lewandowski paced the Kicking Mules with 18 points, and Nicole Rightnowar added 14 points and eight rebounds as Bedford (9-2, 5-1) won a Southeastern Conference Red Division game.

Skyline (7-3, 4-3) was topped by 12 points from Mia Morris.

Eastwood’s Schmeltz tops 1,000 points

 

Eastwood 73, Otsego 26

PEMBERVILLE — Eagles senior guard Jake Schmeltz sank a field goal early in the third quarter for his 1,000th career point in Eastwood’s lopsided Northern Buckeye Conference boys basketball win against Otsego.

Schmeltz, who led all scorers with 23 points, has 1,002 in his career. Grant Peters had 13 points and seven rebounds for the Eagles (9-4, 5-2 NBC), and Steve Bradley added 13 points.

Eastwood led 37-13 at halftime, then buried Otsego with a 29-7 third quarter.

The Knights (5-8, 3-4) were paced by Cody Downs’ 11 points.
