Central Catholic pounds St. John's 55-37 in TRAC showdown
Host St. John's Jesuit bolted to a 20-9 lead after one quarter, but the rest was all Central Catholic in Friday night's boys basketball showdown for first place in the Three Rivers Athletic Conference.
Central (16-2, 11-1 TRAC) clamped down on the Titans holding them to a total of eight points in the middle quarters, took control of the game, and rolled to a 55-37 victory.
The Irish were led by game highs of 14 points and 10 rebounds from senior center Nate Harris.
St. John's (15-6, 11-2) was paced by 20 points from senior guard Athony Glover Jr. The rest of the Titans combibed for only 17 points, as St. John's hit just 14 of 41 field-goal attempts in the game against Central's vise-like defense.
The Irish, who have TRAC games remaining at home against Lima Senior on Sunday and Findlay next Friday, got 10 points from Marcus Winters, and nine points apiece from DeShone Kizer and Tom Vetter.
