Clay, Perrysburg, Central win sectional championships

Genoa wins a Division III crown; Delta romps to a D-III title

At Clay, the host Eagles won 11 individual titles Saturday on their way to the team title in Division I wrestling sectional.

Clay finished with 320.5 points, followed by St. John's (166) and Whitmer (143).

Nick Henneman (106 pounds), Aaron Henneman (120), Jared Davis (126), Rich Screptock (132), Gavin Nelson (138), Zach Brown (145), Andy Howard (152), Nick Stencel (160), Matt Stencel (182), Tyeler Koester (220) and Antonio Zapata (285) all took individual titles for Clay.

Other champions wer Springfield's D.J. Vaughn (170) and Ross Lonsway (195). Waite's Krys Young won at 113.

10 Jackets take titles

MANSFIELD — Perrysburg dominated the Division I sectional, taking the team crown on the strength of 10 individual titles.

The Yellow Jackets finished with 315.5 points, ahead of second place Ashland (183) and third place Fremont Ross (146). Anthony Wayne (142) followed in fourth place and Findlay (113) finished fifth.

Khyron Vidales (106), Mario Guillen (113), Moises Guillen (120), Josh Herhold (132), J.P. Newton (152), Dan Waltermeyer (160), Rocco Caywood (182), Kadin Llewellyn (195), Mark Delas (220) and Cale Bonner (285) all won individual titles for Perrysburg.

Other winners included Findlay’s Justin Jolliff at 126 and Jimmy Staschiak at 138. Trey Grine of Fremont Ross won at 145.

6 Irish are winners

BOWLING GREEN — Central Catholic won the Division II North sectional at Bowling Green State University behind six individual winners.

The Irish finished with 272 points, edging second place Wauseon (207.5). Oak Harbor was third with 167 points.

Josh Venia (106), Richard Jackson (145), Alex Mossing (152), Colin Kaucher (182), Chris Norwood (220) and Jquan Fisher (285) all took top honors.

Wauseon’s Cameron Slattman (126) and Wade Hodges (132) were individual winners.

Oak Harbor got titles from Nick Bergman (120) and Jeremy Balboa (138).

Other champs were Seth Beard of Napoleon at 113, Anthony Arroyo of Maumee at 160.

Perkins edges Clyde

BOWLING GREEN — Sandusky Perkins edged Clyde to win the Division II South sectional at Bowling Green University.

Perkins finished with 245 points, while Clyde earned 238. Defiance finished thrid with 169 points and Fostoria placed eighth with 91 points.

Luke Leonard (126) and C.J. Matheny (160) of Fostoria won individual titles.

5 Comets are champs

MILLBURY — In a Division III sectional at Lake, Genoa reaped five individual championships to capture the team title with 198 points. Otsego was second with 165.5 points and Elmwood third with 165.

The Comets broke out of the gate early at 106 as Damian D'Emilio won a decision. Genoa’s Max Reeder grabbed the 138 title and Tyler Baird the 182 crown, both by decision, Jay Nino, won at 220 with a pin, and Cody Buckner was victorious at 285 by forfeit.

Otsego had champions at 132 with Trent Soto and 160 with Jordan Hendrix. Elmwood’s Jacob Wise won at 170.

Woodmore’s Evan Ulinski and Josh Cowell won at 113 and 120, respectively, while Northwood’s Devon Dunbar was the 126 crown. E

Eastwood Andrew Caris (145) and Michael Davidson (152) were champions.

11 from Delta win

ARCHBOLD — In a Division III sectional, Delta took 11 individual titles on its way to a team crown.

The Panthers finished with 326 points, followed by Archbold (215.5) in second and Ayersville (126.5) in third.

Delta’s Drew Mattin (106), Jake Spiess (113), Kyle Keller (120), Noah Mattin (126), Dustin Marteney (132), Jesse Beverly (152), Tyler Fahrer (160), Todd Miller (170), Ryan Patchin (182), Mark Francis (195), and Chance Veller (285) all earned titles.

Archbold won the other three weight classes with Kenny Price (138), Logan Day (145) and Travis Jaramillo (220).
