Central Catholic advances Hagan, Mossing cousins to state finals

Central Catholic's Nate Hagan advanced to the Divison II state wrestling tournament as a district champion a year ago.

But a skin rash denied him the chance to participate. He was left watching the rest of the qualifiers pursue their season-long dreams.

Clay’s Stencel, Screptock win

Screptock, a junior, topped Cuyahoga Falls Walsh Jesuit's Nolan Whitely 7-2 in a 132-pound championship semifinal Friday at Value City Arena.

Screptock (46-9) made it to the state semifinals a year ago and was determined to get past that point this year. READ MORE.

Woodmore’s Ulinski stuns Delta’s Spiess to reach final

Spiess, a sophomore, entered with a 46-0 record at 113 pounds and was a season-long favorite to win a state championship. He owned a 2-0 record all-time against Ulinski, including an overtime victory in last year’s state final at 106.

Yet Ulinski, a senior, never stopped believing he could beat Spiess, then finally proved it with a stunning 5-3 come-from-behind victory. READ MORE.
