Girls basketball roundup: Bulger, Fremont Ross start strong

Notre Dame falls; Lake, Elmwood both pull away

Fremont Ross 62, Clyde 38

FREMONT — Jazmin Bulger scored 17 points, Ahlia Simms added 12, and Olivia Baptista finished with 11 in the Little Giants’ home win Friday night as the girls basketball season got underway.

For Clyde, Heidi Marshall (15), Jackie Smith (11), and Alayna Barrera (10) all scored in double digits.

Dublin Coffman 55, Notre Dame 46

REYNOLDSBURG — Jacy Sheldon scored 28 points to lead Dublin Coffman to victory in the Gary West Tipoff Memorial Classic. Both teams played away from home.

Jala Johnson scored 14 points to lead Notre Dame. Ariel Cummings added 12 points and Kailah Johnson scored 10.

Lake 55, Gibsonburg 29

GIBSONBURG — Lexi Robinson scored 16 points and Kayla Bekier 10 as the Flyers won their season opener on the road.

Emily Roberts finished with nine points to lead the Golden Bears.

Elmwood 58, Van Buren 33

BLOOMDALE — Zoe Shank knocked down 13 field goals and scored 26 points in the Royals’ home win. Jill Hannah added 11 points and Peighton Troike 10. Zoe Horne led Van Buren with 10 points.

Woodmore 53, Port Clinton 21

ELMORE — The Wildcats held Port Clinton to five first-half points. Hayley Freund led Woodmore with 12 points, and Katie Brugger added nine points. Delayna Laurel paced Port Clinton with seven.

Hopewell-Loudon 66, Fostoria 32

BASCOM — Tyriana Settles scored nine points, and both Meredith Grimes and Evion Taylor finished with seven, but that wasn’t enough for Fostoria in a road loss.

Fremont St. Joseph 63, Cardinal Stritch 29

Courteney Hardy led the Cardinals with 14 points, but St. Joseph’s offense proved to be too much in the opener. Adrian Wehring led the Streaks with 15 points. Brooke Casperson added 12.

Liberty Center 55, Toledo Christian 25

Meghan Skeens hit five 3-pointers, scored 17 points, and led the Tigers to a victory in Toledo. Loganne Weaver and Sydni Altman both added nine each.

Ella Zaborowski led the Eagles with eight points.

Delta 53, Swanton 38

DELTA — Maddie Mattimore finished with 19 points and Abbie Freeman 17 as the Panthers won at home. Cydney Christensen led Swanton with 12 points.

Pettisville 42, North Central 36

PIONEER — Morgan Leppelmeier finished with 14 points and Nichole Foor added 10 as the Blackbirds won on the road. Sidney McKarnes led North Central with 10 points.
