Boys basketball: St. John's falls in San Diego; Northview stays undefeated

SAN DIEGO — The Titans went up against the Los Angeles-based school where Shaquille O’Neal’s son, Shareef, attends. 

Shareef O’Neal finished with 18 points and Tamir Sadan finished with 17 points in the first game of the Torrey Pines Holiday Classic.

Crossroads (7-2 overall) also got 11 points from Miles Ceballos.

The Titans (4-1) were led by Vincent Williams Jr. with 21 points and Houston King with 20 points

Genoa's Jacob Plantz, shown in a game earlier this season, scored 26 points in a win over Gibsonburg Wednesday.

GENOA 49, GIBSONBURG 23

GIBSONBURG — Jacob Plantz ended up with more points than the opposing team as the Comets won a nonconference contest. Plantz ended up with 26 points as Genoa (5-2 overall) prevailed.

Josiah Bradfield finished with 10 points for the Comets.

Josh Ernsthausen paced Gibsonburg (2-5) with eight points.

TOLEDO CHRISTIAN 65, PORT CLINTON 59

A buzzer-beating 3-pointer by Port Clinton’s Max Rumbarger tied the score at 56-56 and sent the game to overtime. There, the Eagles outscored Port Clinton 9-3 for their seventh win in eight games.

Delano Smith led Toledo Christian with 22 points and seven assists. Owen Gast added 14 points, and Marcus Durden recorded a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Rumbarger paced the Redskins with 23 points, and Max Brenner had 16 points. Sammy Diaz chipped in 14 points.

START 72, CATALYST MARIA (Ill.) 48

Start (6-1) advanced to the final four of the Prosser Holiday Tournament in Chicago thanks in large part to big games from Randall Lewis (16 points), Alex Perry (13) and Trent Harris (10). Start led 33-25 at the half and 50-36 with eight minutes to play.

NORTHVIEW 64, CLAY 50

The visiting Wildcats outscored the Eagles in every stanza on the way to a comfortable nonleague victory Wednesday night. Alek West led the winners with 19 points while Sam Clear contributed 17 for Northview, which improved to 7-0.

Clay (3-5) was led by Trey Reddick (13 points) and Reese Waymer (10).
