Ashlynn Brown, a 6-foot-2 center, has led the defending Northern Lakes League champion Yellow Jackets to a 7-1 start overall, including a first-place 6-0 mark in the NLL after a Dec. 21, 58-38 win against Springfield.
In her fourth year on varsity, Brown is in her third season a starter. Going into Wednesday’s game against Archbold, she was averaging 17.0 points and 8.2 rebounds, was shooting 48 percent from the field and 80 percent from the free-throw line, and had blocked 12 shots. She recorded a career-high 26 points in a 52-40 NLL win Dec. 19 against Anthony Wayne.
Last season, Brown averaged 12.3 points and 7.9 rebounds, was named first-team All-NLL and Division I all-district, and was selected second-team All-Ohio. She carries a 3.8 grade-point average, and has signed to play collegiatelyl at Division II Southern Indiana.
“What makes Ashlynn stand out as a post player is her ability to shoot the ball,” Perrysburg coach Todd Sims said. “She was recruited by many schools as a stretch [power forward]. She is very valuable to our team as a scorer, rebounder, and a passer.
“Ashlynn is a very unselfish player, and an outstanding leader. She is a captain this year as a senior. She was not named a captain on the NLL title team as a junior, but she was also a leader on that team. We are really going to miss her next season.”
