Boys basketball: Ross tops Lima Senior on buzzer-beater

Fremont Ross 50, Lima Senior 48

FREMONT—Maliek Johnson hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer off an out-of-bounds play to give Fremont Ross a 50-48 upset win over Lima Senior on Friday. 

The victory improved Ross to to 1-5 (1-4 Three Rivers Athletic Conference).

Jabryis Heidelburg led the Little Giants with 15 points, and Johnson scored 14.

Lima Senior (5-4, 2-3) was paced by Jaleel King with 17 points, and B.J. Miller scored 12.

Van Buren 53, Otsego 44

TONTOGANY — The Black Knights improved to 5-3 behind 15 points from Matt Ayers. Nick Beitzel and Connor Ohlich both scored 10 for Van Buren, which outscored Otsego 15-2 in the third quarter.

Otsego (4-3) was led by Will Varner’s 22 points.

Waite 66, Emmanuel Christian 45

The Indians advanced to Saturday’s final of the Emmanuel Christian Holiday Tournament with a decisive win. Carl Banks (22 points), Keyshawn Leach (16), and Dominique Booth (10) led Waite. The Indians had a 35-27 lead at the half before outscoring EC 22-7 in the fourth quarter.

The Warriors were led by Brennan Morris (12 points) and Jailon Walker (10).

Montgomery Bell (Tenn.) 66, Whitmer 59

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Panthers lost in the finals of the Rock Holiday Classic as Alex Roberts had 25 points, and Drew Weikert scored 22.

Montgomery Bell Academy (11-1) is based out of Nashville.

The Panthers (6-2) got 17 points from Areon Evans. Trey Syroka had 16 points, and Eddie Colbert scored 11.

Bryan 54, Paulding 49

DEFIANCE — The Golden Bears surged to a 23-15 halftime lead before holding off Paulding in a holiday tournament game.

Ethan Rhonehouse led Paulding with 13 points.

Bryan improved to 3-5 while Paulding slipped to 3-6. Bryan outrebounded Paulding 29-22.

Anthony Wayne 41, Genoa 38

Max Bradfield’s 10-point night helped boost the Generals over the .500 mark (4-3). Host Anthony Wayne trailed 33-31 heading into the fourth quarter.

Jake Plantz led Genoa with 19 points.

Lake 65, McComb 51

MILLBURY — Ben Stowers had 21 points, and Mikey Szymanski scored 12 to help the Flyers win the nonleague game.

Lake (4-6) had a 7-point halftime lead, and put the game away in the fourth quarter with a 22-13 run.

Justin Wasson led the Panthers (2-5) with 13 points. Jacob Rider also had 13 points, and Tanner Schroeder scored 12.

Westchester  (Calif.) 62, St. John’s Jesuit 48

SAN DIEGO — The Titans (5-2) slipped to 1-2 in the holiday tournament, losing to Los Angeles-based Westchester. Houston King had 16 points for St. John’s, while Vincent Williams, Jr., scored 14.

The game was tied at 10-10 after one quarter before Westchester bolted to a 31-24 halftime lead.

St. Francis 59, Findlay 47

FINDLAY — Drew Swerlein’s 17-point game led the Knights to a victory over the host Trojans. Tayler McNeal (13 points), Jackie Harris (15), and Jakiel Wells (14) also played well for St. Francis, which had a 22-11 first-quarter lead.

Findlay was led by Jacob Logsdon and Ryan Roth, both with 15 points. Ryan Nunn scored 13. St. Francis improved to 7-2, while the Trojans slipped to 5-3.

Napoleon 56, Patrick Henry 53

NAPOLEON — Jarrett Gerdeman had 17 points, and Ed Bump scored 11 as the Wildcats won a nonleague game.

The Patriots got 16 points from Xavier Wensink.

Archbold 70, Eastwood 51

ARCHBOLD — The Blue Streaks took advantage of 19 Eastwood turnovers and built a double-digit lead at halftime.

Rigo Ramos led Archbold (5-2) with 16 points. Bryce Williams had 14 points, and Austin Wiemken scored 11.

Tyler Haas had 14 points for the Eagles (2-2).

Fayette 52, Delta 46

FAYETTE — Trey Keefer had 20 points, and Clayton Theils scored 18 to lead the Eagles to a nonleague victory. Fayette, which improved to 6-2, overcame a 13-5 first-quarter deficit.

Delta (2-5) was led by Brady Wymer’s 25 points.

Whiteford 56, Swanton 39

The Bobcats broke open a tight game — they led 26-25 at the half — with a 30-point second half, thanks to a balanced attack led by Thomas Litniear’s 13 points. Jarred Fink scored 12 for Whiteford, while Cameron Iott and Matthew Taylor both scored 11.

Swanton’s lone double-digit scorer was Jared Wilson, who scored 10.

Evergreen 72, Montpelier 44

METAMORA — The Vikings (3-5) dominated in the Northwest Holiday Classic game, rolling to a 30-15 halftime lead behind Jack Etue (18 points) and Bryce Hudik (13). Chandler Lumbrezer had 12 points, while Nate Brighton scored 11.

Kolton Uribes led Montpelier with 21 points.

Northview 74, Bowsher 55

The Wildcats (8-0) win at home as Alek West had 19 points and 10 rebounds, Colton Snow had 17 points and 18 rebounds, and Sam Clear scored 17.

Khyree Joyce had a game-high 20 points for the Rebels.

Oak Harbor 70, Willard 39

OAK HARBOR — Tate Smith had 24 points, and Clay Schulte had five 3-pointers and 23 points as the Rockets (6-2) cruised to a nonleague win.

Terry Baldridge had 13 points for Willard.

Elmwood 57, Arcadia 39

ARCADIA — Matthew Cline led the Royals (3-5) with 21 points, and Zach Weiss scored 14. Elmwood’s Clay Stearns had a team-high five rebounds.

Dez Simon led Arcadia with nine points.

Bay 103, Clay 61

BAY VILLAGE, Ohio — Bay had quarters of 20, 30, 29, and 24 points to pound Clay, which lost Dakota Calkins to an injury.

Reese Wamer led the Eagles with 10 points.

Start 74, Chicago Alcott 70

CHICAGO — The Spartans (7-2) were led by Trent Harris with 16 points and Tyrik Barbine with 15 in the Prosser Holiday Tournament.

Chris Khelee had 33 points for the Wildcats.

Antwerp 56, Edon 37

EDGERTON — Cole Seslar’s 18 points lifted Antwerp (3-3) to victory in the Route 49 Tournament.

Austin Kiess led Edon (0-8) with 12 points.
