With their team preparing for the Division II girls state basketball semifinals on Friday, Rogers teammates Zia Cooke and Madison Royal-Davis each received All-Ohio honors on the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association teams released Tuesday.
Cooke, a 5-foot-9 junior point guard who is a recruiting target of many of the nation’s top college programs, was named to the D-II first team after averaging 22.4 points, 4.1 rebounds and 5.0 assists during the regular season for the sixth-ranked Rams. She was a second-team All-Ohio pick last season.
Rogers' Madison Royal-Davis (3) takes a shot during an OHSAA Division II girls basketball regional final between Rogers and Bellevue hosted at Mansfield Senior High School in Mansfield.
Royal-Davis, a promising 5-11 freshman guard who averaged 16.3 points and 4.8 rebounds, was named to the All-Ohio second team.
Cooke and Royal-Davis have led Rogers (25-3) to a spot in Friday’s 3 p.m. D-II state semifinal against unranked New Philadelphia (25-2). Cooke is a two-time City League and Northwest Ohio district player of the year.
Oak Harbor High School player Logan Harris (10) gets around Rogers High School player Tasya Gant (34) for a basket during their basketball game at Anthony Wayne High School in Whitehouse.
Logan Harris, a 6-1 junior forward from Oak Harbor, was named to the Division II third team. Harris averaged 19.5 points and 8.9 rebounds during the regular season for the 18-4 Rockets. She was the Sandusky Bay Conference Bay Division player of the year.
In Division I, 6-2 seniors Ashlynn Brown of Perrysburg and Ariel Cummings of Notre Dame were each named to the All-Ohio first team.
Brown, the Northern Lakes League and Northwest Ohio district player of the year, helped the Yellow Jackets to a 19-3 regular-season overall record and a first-place 14-0 NLL mark while averaging 17.0 points and 8.3 rebounds.
Cummings, the Three Rivers Athletic Conference player of the year, helped the 10th-ranked Eagles to an 18-4 overall regular-season record and a 14-0 championship season in the TRAC while contributing 11.4 points and 7.8 rebounds.
As a junior, the University of Toledo bound Cummings helped Notre Dame to a 2017 D-I state runner-up finish, scoring 28 points and grabbing 14 rebounds in the state-semifinal upset of top-ranked and previously unbeaten Newark.
Brown, who will play at Southern Indiana, was a second All-Ohio selection last season.
Both Notre Dame and Perrysburg lost in last week’s regional semifinals.
