Brother Rice tops St. John's
Cheatham Norrils had two interceptions, including one returned 73 yards for a touchdown, for St. John's Jesuit, but the Titans still fell 42-21 last night to Birmingham Brother Rice at Rogers.
St. John's rushed 23 times for 119 yards, and quarterback Kent Kern completed 7 of 21 passes for 51 yards with two interceptions, but Brother Rice held the Titans' offense scoreless.
In the third quarter, St. John's Khalib Smith picked off a Frankie Popp pass and ran it 38 yards for a touchdown.
Garrett Harvey also added a pick for the Titans.
The special teams unit accounted for the Titans' only other score when Nate White returned a kickoff 93 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Kevonte Martin-Manley led Bishop Rice with two touchdown receptions, one for 10 yards in the first quarter and another for 18 yards in the fourth.
Bishop Rice rushed 46 times for 227 yards and completed 15 of 28 passes for 196 yards.
Springfield 46, Bowsher 19
Leroy Alexander threw for two touchdowns and ran for a third to lead Springfield to a victory Friday at Bowsher.
Alexander scored on a 21-yard run and had scoring strikes of seven yards to Kevin Williams and 15 yards to Glandoy Hill for Springfield (1-1).
Alexander finished with 106 rushing yards on 14 carries and added 78 passing yards as the Blue Devils finished with 273 yards of total offense (216 rushing).
Alex Grogg and Edwin Huntley had rushing TDs for Springfield, with the Blue Devils' other scores coming on Albert Phillips' 25-yard interception return and a 45-yard punt return by Jared Williams.
Bowsher (0-2) was led by quarterback Brian Shelton, who threw for 240 yards and three TDs.
He completed scoring passes of 7 and 71 yards to Antoine Russell and a 41-yard TD toss to Cameron Florence.
