NWOAL
Wauseon Indians
Coach: Travis Cooper, second year
Last season: 5-5, 4-4 NWOAL
Returning letter winners: 7
Returning starters: Offense 3, defense 1
Schemes: Run-and-Boot/4-4
Top players: Seniors Josh Cales, 6-6, 205, WR-LB; Ridge Schweinhagen, 6-0, 170, RB-LB; Jordan Kauffman, 6-0, 140, WR-DB. Juniors Ty Suntken, 5-11, 170, QB-DB; Alec Vonier, 5-8, 188, OL-DL.
Outlook: Continual improvement is what the Indians have strived to produce during the first two seasons under Cooper.
They'd like nothing more than putting a winning season together. Wauseon had almost 70 players come out for the team, however only seven are returning letter winners, so lack of experience appears to be a major hurdle. Only four were starters last season.
Suntken handled the signal-calling duties last season and completed 44 of 92 passes for 772 yards, including eight TDs.
Seniors Cales, Schweinghagen and Kauffman will also be counted on to be team leaders.
"We are returning our QB and a solid core of players who are inexperienced, but are very hungry to get Wauseon football back to the top of the league," Cooper said. "The key factors for us will be handling adversity and finishing four quarters each and every game."
