Northview sweeps NLL golf meet

Northview swept the Northern Lakes League boys and girls golf overall championships Tuesday, with the Wildcats boys placing first in the league tournament at Rivery Hills.

Northview’s girls were runnersup to Anthony Wayne in the tournament, but edged AW and Perrysburg by one point to clinch the NLL’s overall title, which also factors in league dual matches.

The Northview boys closed with 10 dual-match points plus 24 from Tuesday first-place tourney finish for a total of 34, nosing out runnerup Bowling Green (12-21—33) by a point.

Northview’s girls came in with eight dual-match points and added 21 tourney points for 29 total. Anthony Wayne (4-24—28) and Perrysburg (10-18—28) settled for second.

Led by Jeff Czerniakowski and Adam Graeff, who each posted a 76, the Northview boys had a team total of 311, six strokes lower than runner-up Bowling Green, which had a four-player total of 317. Anthony Wayne and Napoleon each shot 318 to tie for third in the tourney team chase.

Individual medal honors went to Maumee’s Mitchell Kontak, who shot 72 to edge runner-up Nick Smith of Anthony Wayne by one stroke.

Rounding out the top five for the boys event were Napoleon’s Jacob Gebers, who shot 75 to finish third, and four players who tied for fourth at 76 — Czerniakowski and Greff, and BG’s Anrew Herringhouse and Trey Walker.

In the girls tournament, Anthony Wayne was paced by Maria Connelly’s 82 and posted a team score of 359. Northview, which finished five shots back, got a teambest round of 85 from Julia DeBelly. Perrysburg’s Monica Dorner took medal honors with an 80.

Maumee’s Emily Long tied Connelly for second place individually with an 82, and Southview’s Bailey Moreland rounded out the top five with an 87.
