Anthony Wayne edges Bowling Green 58-52

In a battle of two Northern Lakes League preseason favorites that each feature Big Ten recruits, Anthony Wayne got off to quick start and then held off Bowling Green 58-52 tonight.

A capacity crowd of 2,600 packed the Generals' gym and saw the home team get out to a 10-0 lead. Anthony Wayne, the early season pick to win the league, remained undefeated in the NLL (4-0) and improved to 7-1 overall.

The Generals, who led by seven at the half and nine at the end of the third, had to hold off the Bobcats in the fourth. Bowling Green pulled within four points with 6:51 to play. But AW got its first basket of the fourth with 4:18 left and scored 12 in the fourth quarter.

Anthony Wayne senior Mark Donnal, who will play next season at the University of Michigan, finished with a team-high 14 points. Donnal also grabbed 16 rebounds.

Senior Hunter Debo, who had three 3 pointers, finished with 11 points for AW. The Generals had seven players who scored points as Ose Omofoma, James Baker, and Hunter Johnson each chipped in with seven points.

Bowling Green's big man, senior Vitto Brown, got into early foul trouble. Brown, who will play at Wisconsin, scored a game-high 16 points. Brown also pulled down 10 rebounds.

Andrew Herringshaw, who nailed four 3 pointers, finished with 14 points. LaMonta' Stone finished with nine points for Bowling Green.

The Bobcats, who were picked to finish second, lost their fifth straight and fell to 3-6 overall and 2-2 in NLL play.

Anthony Wayne's bench players outscored BG's subs 14-0.
