Mike Lee selected as head coach for Clay football
5/23/2013Mike Lee has been selected by the Clay High School athletic committee to be the Eagles' next head football coach.
Lee, the older brother of former Clay coach Jeff Lee, spent six seasons as head coach at Woodmore in the 1990s, guiding the Wildcats to four state playoff appearances, including two regional finals.
For the last seven years he has been an offensive assistant coach at Lake Wales (Fla.) High School. Prior to that he was was the offensivs coordinator for eight years at Fostoria.
Clay had hired former Genoa and Delta coach Mike Vicars in January, but Vicars decided to step away from the Eagles' post, along with an administrative position with Oregon schools three months later, and subsequently returned to Delta.
"It was evident in his interview that he has a passion for coaching," Clay athletic director Mike Donnelly said of Lee. "He will make a positive impact on the lives of young people, and wants Clay High School football to succeed. The committee was unanimous in deciding that Mike is the right guy to lead our football program."
