Woodmore boys, TC girls grab D-III championships
Shrewsbury keys Wildcats to D-III crown; Gibsonburg’s Reynolds wins 3 girls events
5/26/2013PEMBERVILLE — The Woodmore boys and Toledo Christian girls captured team titles Saturday in the Division III district track and field tournament at Eastwood.
Woodmore, which won nine of the 17 events, scored 115 points to top runner-up Toledo Christian (91) and third-place Tiffin Calvert (84) in the boys meet.
The Toledo Christian girls won three events en route to scoring 100 points. Gibsonburg (85.66 points) was second, and Woodmore (80.5) took third.
Helping secure the boys team crown were Wildcats Andrew Shrewsbury, who won the 100 meters (11.16) and 200 (22.48); Zach Sandwisch, who won the 400 (51.38), and Deric Anthony, who was first in the 800 (2:01.33); Michael Travis, who won the 110 hurdles (15.64); Dan Sprinski, who took the high jump title (6 feet, 2 inches), and Ryan Sandwisch, who was first in the pole vault (12-6).
Woodmore’s foursome of Travis, Malachi Brown, Zach Sandwisch, and Shrewsbury added two relay titles, winning at 800 (1:31.29) and 1600 meters (3:34.54).
Isaac Barringer was the only Toledo Christian boys champion, doubling up in the shot put (45-3) and the discus (142-0).
Toledo Christian’s girls won three events, with Delainey Phelps taking titles in the 1600 (5:27.01) and 3200 (11:20.88), and Darian Westmeyer winning the 100 hurdles (15.77).
Gibsonburg’s Colleen Reynolds dominated the girls sprints, turning in a triple win by taking the 100 (12.57), the 200 (26.29), and the 400 (1:00.33).
Recording a double was Woodmore throws specialist Megan Pendleton, who took titles in the shot put (35-5.5) and the discus (142-10).
The top four finishers in each event qualify for regional Wednesday and Friday at Tiffin Columbian.
Liberty Center girls finish 2nd in D-III
AYERSVILLE — Brittany Atkinson won two distance events to lead the Liberty Center girls to a second-place finish in the Division III district meet.
Atkinson won the 1600 (5:19.11) and the 3200 (11:36.66). She was also on the winning 3200 relay team, along with Paige Chamberlain, Kelly Haubert, and Olivia Kundo (9:45.43).
Archbold finished in third place overall. Kassidy Garrow won the 800 in 2:21.10 and the 1600 relay team (Garrow, Jensyn Garrow, Meredith Short, and Tressa Parsley) won with a time of 4:12.29.
The Pettisville boys took third place in the district meet behind a first place finish in the 800 for Jeremy Mann (2:01.63).
Pettisville’s 3200 relay team also earned a first-place finish.
The Liberty Center boys finished in fourth place.
Liberty-Benton girls capture D-II crown
FOSTORIA — Michaela Butler won three events and Madi Greiner won two as the Liberty-Benton girls grabbed the Division II district meet. The Eagles finished with 133 points.
Butler won the 100 (12.38) and the 200 (24.96) and was on the winning 400 relay team.
Greiner took the 1600 (5:28.63) and the 3200 (11:55.92).
Alex DeVincentis also won two field events for Liberty-Benton, earning top spot in the discus (137-07) and the shot put (42-02).
Napoleon finished in third place with 106. Peyton Lee won the 100 hurdles for the Wildcats in 15.29.
Carly Truckor of Evergreen won the 300 hurdles in 47.11.
In the relays, Liberty-Benton's team of Katie Hyre, Jessie Sellhorst, Kara Shaffer, and Butler won the 400 in 51.43.
Napoleon’s team of Amber Robison, Alexa Sonnenberg, Sharah Weisner, and Marissa Cramer took the 3200 relay in 9:57.53
In the boys district meet, Napoleon finished in 9th place. Devin Armour won the 100 in 11.19 for the Wildcats’ only top finish.
