Bedford baseball team falls in Division I Mich. quarterfinals

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The Bedford baseball team saw its season end in the Division I state quarterfinals today.

The Mules lost 11-1 to Howell at McLane Stadium on the campus of Michigan State University. Bedford fell behind 7-1 after two innings and did not get a hit.

The game ended after five innings due to the mercy rule.

Bedford (30-8) ended its season ranked eighth in the final state poll.

Howell starter Tyler Bradner not only pitched a no hitter he also went 3 for 3 at the plate and drove in five runs. Howell (32-6), which was ranked No. 5 in the poll, advances to the state semifinals for the second straight season.

The Mules scratched across their only run of the game in the second inning. Brad Boss walked to lead off and Josh Strickland was then hit by a pitch. Boss later scored on a fielder's choice as Lucas Mayo beat out a potential inning-ending double play. The Mules made it 7-1 despite not getting a hit.

Bedford senior pitcher Kyle Kuhr, who threw 73 pitches to lead the Mules to a regional championship on Saturday, allowed seven runs on five hits over three innings.

Howell added four more runs, including two unearned, in the fifth inning off reliever Logan Snyder.
