ABOUT THE TEAM:

Coach: Craig Smith, 17th year

Last season: 5-5, 3-4 NLL

Returning letter winners: 15

Returning starters: Offense 6, defense 5

Schemes: Wing-T/5-2

Top players: Seniors Sam Bruno, 6-1, 185, RB; Josh Schwerer, 5-11, 165 RB-DB; Jake Reid, 6-5, 200, QB; Eric Zelina, 6-2, 190, TE; Kyle Aryanosi, 5-9, 165, FB; Blake Alberts 5-10, 210, LB; Sam Lyell, 6-3, 225, OT; Jake Hartbarger, 6-4 P-K.

Outlook: The Generals won three of their first four games last season but lost three of their last four.

AW has an experienced backfield and receivers. The defensive backfield and kicking game should be strengths.

Hartbarger, an all-district and All-NLL first-team punter, has been chosen to play in the Under Armour All-American Game in January in Orlando. He is ranked among the top 10 punters by several national recruiting services.

Bruno rushed for 1,157 yards and 15 touchdowns and was All-NLL first team as both a sophomore and junior.

Reid connected on 44 of 87 passes for 654 yards and seven TDs. Zelina finished with 17 receptions for 267 yards. Alberts was All-NLL second team, while Aryanosi earned all-league honorable mention.

Smith is concerned about the development along both the offensive and defensive lines.

“Anthony Wayne must win the close games we lost last year, and be motivated to reach our goals,” Smith said.
