ABOUT THE TEAM:

Coach: Mike Lee, first year

Last season: 5-5, 3-4 TRAC

Returning letter winners: 20

Returning starters: Offense 6, defense 6

Schemes: Multiple spread/odd stack

Top players: Seniors Josh Pennington, 6-3, 190, QB-S; Kyle Row, 6-1, 165, WR-CB; Anthony Ramirez, 6-2, 185, WR-CB; Jared Lutz, 5-11, 250, OL-DL; Dillon Twining, 6-3, 250, OL-DL; Logan Davies, 5-11, 190, RB-LB; Michael Lee, 5-10, 185, RB-LB.

Outlook: The Eagles look to improve under Lee, a former successful head coach in the 1990s at Woodmore who returns to the area from Florida. Clay will rely on its experience at the offensive skill positions and line, and at linebacker. Overall, however, the Eagles lack depth and experience.

Pennington was 131 of 243 passing for 2,025 yards and 15 TDs, and Row had 43 catches for 723 yards.

“We’re still in the learning stages,” Lee said. “We’re expecting some good things, but it’s going to take time. It’s been a real good transition so far. I think we can compete.

“I’ve seen some film [from 2012], but not enough to see where we should be or can be. We have to stay away from injuries and take care of the ball, and hopefully we can make some things happen.”

Lee, who led Woodmore to three SLL titles (1995-97) and four playoff appearances in his six seasons there, was later an assistant for eight years at Fostoria, and seven more at Lake Wales, Fla.
