Woodward 20, Cardinal Stritch 14

The losing streak is over for Woodward.

Darius Fleming threw a 44-yard touchdown pass to Vedel Williams with 1:46 left in the fourth quarter Friday night in the season opener at Clay as the Polar Bears ended a 53-game losing streak.

The streak tied for the third longest in Ohio history. The longest losing streak was 64 games by Youngstown North from 1957-64.

Woodward’s last victory came in the 2007 with a 30-13 victory over Waite in the sixth week of the season.

Mordecai Brownlee rushed for 125 yards on 16 carries for the Polar Bears and scored on a 72 yard touchdown run.

Fleming rushed 13 yards n for the game’s first touchdown.

Cardinal Stritch tied the score at 6 in the second quarter on a 16-yard pass from Joe Sinay to James Dobson.

The Cardinals agot a touchdown from Rickie Pratt on a one-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Genoa 65, Waite 13

GENOA — Casey Gose scored two touchdowns and Cody Pickard kicked five field goals to help to lead the Comets.

David Nutter had six carries for 104 yards and a touchdown as Genoa finished with 428 yards on 29 carries.

Pickard kicked field goals of 25, 20, 29, 18 and 19 yards.

Quentin Spiess had two catches for 92 yards and a touchdown for Genoa. Jake Wojciechowski, Michael Roberts and Tyler Rozek also scored touchdowns for Genoa, which led 46-13 at halftime.

Jeremy Pratt led Waite with 155 yards on 20 carries and scored a touchdown in the first quarter; the Indians finished with 326 yards on 60 carries.

Navarre Fairless 42, Scott 8

NAVARRE, Ohio — Jeremy Mahassey rushed for three touchdowns for Fairless.

The Bulldogs avoided a shutout with fourth-quarter touchdown run from quarterback Tre Brown.

Running back Day'vonta Russell led Scott with 145 yards on18 carries while Brown rushed for 60 yards and passed for 73.

Hunter Wells tossed touchdown passes of 13, 18 and 19 yards as Fairless built a 28-0 lead at the half.

Cleveland John Hay 49, Start 8

Demarcus Sanders rushed for 248 yards and three touchdowns as John Hay won at Start.

Sanders rushed in from 70, 35, and 85 yards, while John Hay rushed for 447 yards as a team.

Mylik Mitchell threw for two touchdowns. Malik Bailey and Brandon Long added TD rushes for John Hay.

Aaron Williams caught a 40-yard pass from Brandon Winters for Start's only score.

The Spartans managed only 130 yards of offense.

Piqua 41, Rogers 6

Daniel Monnin scored a touchdown and passed for three more to pace Piqua.

Mike Moore scored Rogers’ only touchdown on a 93-yard kickoff return.

Piqua had 234 yards rushing to the Rams’ 30. Trenton Yeomans led Piqua with 142 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries.
