Way back when, all the relatives lived in one neighborhood. Kids could ride bikes to grandma s for a snack. The neighborhood pool was a short walk away.

Developers have re-discovered the charms of way back when, with a contemporary kick the homes are energy efficient, with all the modern amenities one expects in new construction.

Take this week s featured home, located at 2218 Falling Waters in Perrysburg s River s Edge neighborhood. A clubhouse with swimming pool and community room will be open soon. There are three ponds, fountains, and a walking trail. Otterbein Retirement Communities is opening a retirement home in River s Edge this fall. Because it is in the City of Perrysburg, there is no income tax on pensions here. This is the perfect neighborhood for multiple generations of a family.

The home itself is an Owens Corning Thinking System home, using the company s pink wrap, shingles, and blown-in insulation. High ceilings and thick window trim give the home a decidedly upscale fee.

The exterior is tan vinyl and stone, with a large front porch and white railing. Within, everything is built to last. Pella windows and ThermaTru exterior doors offer excellent energy efficiency. The ceiling and walls are fully insulated, and a Tappan furnace heats the home.

But that pales when compared to the beauty and sheer livability of this new home. The entrance is highlighted by a hardwood floor, with a second floor balcony overlooking the foyer. To the right, behind French doors, is an office with tray ceiling and mullioned windows. With its closet and shared bath, this room would also make a nice, bright bedroom.

The bathroom is a full bath with step-in shower and a vanity with a granite countertop. The floor here is easy-maintenance vinyl, but looks so much like ceramic tile, you will have to touch it to know the difference. Nearby, a back hall leads to the two-car garage, laundry room with utility sink, and large closet.

The great room is straight ahead, with a vaulted ceiling. A fan here provides a gentle breeze, and the gas fireplace takes the chill off on a cold day. A marble surround and hearth, and a white wood mantle, decorate it. Above is a large niche, perfect for your television set.

Pillars set the kitchen off from the great room. White appliances here are all by Whirlpool and include a refrigerator, microwave, stove and dishwasher. White beveled cabinets with crown molding give the space a light, clean air, without seeming sterile. They are topped by Corian in a light oatmeal color. Pendant lights hang above a peninsula snack bar, which offers work space for the cook, or can be used as a serving buffet, since it is next to the dining area.

The dining area has a sliding door leading to a lovely screened porch and the poured concrete patio beyond. This porch is a perfect place to relax and enjoy a warm summer evening.

Just off the great room is the master bedroom. A deep tray ceiling emphasizes the height of this room, and a fan offers year-round comfort. The master bath has a double vanity in white, a deep jetted tub under a glass block window, and a step-in shower with seat. There is also a large, walk-in closet and a separate water closet.

Steps to the upstairs are located just off the great room. The landing creates a balcony overlooking the great room, affording a wonderful view of this room. At the top of the stairs is an unfinished bonus room. Let your imagination run wild here it could be easily converted to a media room, a bedroom, a study, or a playroom.

The finished bedroom on this level has a vaulted ceiling with fan and two double closets. There is also a hall bath and a linen closet.

There are so many extras offered with these homes too many to list here. Ridge Stone estimates that your new home in this community will take merely four and a half months to build, from the first dig to completion. Some waterfront lots are still available.

Maintenance fees are $105.17 per month, and include snow removal, landscaping, and lawn care, as well as care of the clubhouse and other common areas.
