This week s featured home, at 701 Meadowchase Lane, won the Villa of the Year Award for 2007 from the Home Builders Association of Greater Toledo. And it s easy to see why: it combines an open floor plan with accessibility features for older homeowners who wish to age in place.

Best of all, it is Energy Star rated, meaning that the home has been built with energy-saving features throughout, including a high-efficiency gas furnace and 13 SEER air conditioner, NuWool WALLSEAL insulation, triple seal casement windows with low-E glass and argon gas, and a house wrap to prevent air infiltration. It is estimated that heating and cooling will cost approximately $1,253 annually.

Even with accessibility features, this stylish home will appeal to any age.

The exterior is linen vinyl with a light brick skirting. The poured concrete walkway slopes gently to the covered front door there are no stairs to navigate! The wide doorway could easily accommodate a wheelchair.

The tile floor in the foyer looks warm and welcoming, and separates this area from the rest of the home. To the left is a closet for guests coats. To the right is a lovely bedroom, shown here as an office. The vaulted ceiling here is quite fashionable, and a ceiling fan helps keep the room comfortable. The large mullioned window overlooking the front is topped by a half-round transom. This bedroom, and another nearby, each have generous double closets.

They share a full bath. The maple vanity here sports an attractive rouge stain, and is topped by cultured marble.

Straight ahead is the great room. Tall ceilings here create a feeling of expanded space, and again, a ceiling fan helps to create a nice breeze. A large casement window is topped by a tall transom, so the room is infused with light.

The focal point of the room, however, is the gas fireplace. A ceramic tile surround and hearth in a light tan add subtle color to the space. A white wood mantel hangs above, and over that is prewired space for your flat screen TV, with surround sound in the great room and a whole house speaker system.

Off the great room is the kitchen with a raised peninsula snack bar. A vinyl tile floor here looks just like ceramic. Maple cabinets, with that distinctive rouge stain, offer lots of storage space, including a lazy Susan. Wilsonart high-definition laminate countertops offer the look of stone, and a glass top stove, a microwave with outside ventilation, and a dishwasher, all by GE in stylish stainless steel, are included with the home. A back hall leads to the pantry, laundry room with a sink and cabinets, closet, and the two car garage. Pull down stairs here lead to a full floored garage attic.

Adjacent to the kitchen is the dining area and a beautiful sunroom. The vaulted ceiling here provides a quaint cottage effect. Sliding doors lead to a poured concrete patio a convenient place for your gas grill.

The master suite tucked back off the great room, is an ideal owner s retreat. A deep tray ceiling adds impact to the room, and a double casement window provide a view to the outdoors. A pocket door hides the master bath, but once you re inside wow!

A linen closet, double raised vanity and the commode are to the right. To the left, under a glass block window, is a luxurious garden tub. This window is perfect here because it lets in natural light while providing complete privacy. Just beyond the tub is the step-in shower. At the end of the room, behind another pocket door, is the spacious walk-in closet.
