The comfortable great room includes a built-in cabinet and classic fireplace.

  • This week’s featured home, from Builder Doug Howard, offers style and comfort in equal parts. Located in the Eagle Creek neighbor-hood off Sylvania-Metamora Road, it features interesting details in a contemporary floor plan.

The exterior is a New England gray and white, with stone skirting and tall, white, tapered pillars. A poured concrete walkway and drive lead to the home, where a covered front porch protects visitors from inclement weather.

The front door is topped by a generous transom and flanked by sidelights, allowing plenty of natural light into the welcoming foyer. The foyer is floored in ash hardwood and gleams with a deep stain. The ceiling, rising 10 feet, is the star of the show here. It is coffered, with a beautiful amber light that illuminates the entrance and can be seen from the street.

A guest closet, as well as the staircase to the basement, can also be accessed from the foyer.

To the right are two bedrooms. The first, at the front of the home, features a cathedral ceiling and fan. Both bedrooms have double closets. A shared bath separates the two, and includes a lovely dark vanity with a white ceramic top.

The great room includes a gas fireplace enhanced by a white wood mantel and a tile surround. Tucked into an alcove of the room are built-in cabinets, topped with granite. Use the cabinets for storage, and display your photos and artwork on top.

The open kitchen is adjacent to the dining area.

The great room is open to the kitchen and dining area. The kitchen and dining area share a coffered ceiling. Maple cabinetry encircles the kitchen and counters are topped with beautiful, gold-flecked black granite.

A tile backsplash offers easy clean-up. The counter extends and becomes a long snack bar, wrapped in beadboard. The colors of the dark granite and white beadboard work together beautifully, especially with the addition of a stainless steel stove, microwave and dishwasher.

A door from the dining area leads to a poured concrete patio. Put your gas grill here to enjoy easy access to either indoor or al fresco dining!

A back hall from the kitchen leads to the laundry room and the two car garage.

Off the great room is the master suite. This generous space overlooks the backyard. A ceiling fan descends from the tray ceiling, creating a relaxing breeze. The master bath features a double raised vanity, topped by granite, and a tile floor. A step-in shower has two seats below an arched ceiling. A private water closet and large walk-in closet complete the space.

No detail has been overlooked in this home. For instance, the builder has incorporated pocket doors into the master suite in order to save space in both the bedroom and the bath. The three-quarters basement is plumbed – should you choose to finish the basement, it will be ready for a full bath. Landscape sprinklers have been installed so that your lawn will always look its best. The home is Energy Star com-pliant, so you can count on low energy bills and a warm, comfortable home this winter.
