Bush poses a threat to our future

It has become increasingly clear that the Bush Administration represents a "grave and gathering" danger to the future of our country. This harsh judgment was the result of not only its deception of all of us in the creation of an unnecessary Iraq war, which killed and wounded thousands and milked our treasury as its friends are enriched, but even more so in its continuing threat to the United States.

If President Bush gets another four years in November, I fear that the American "experiment" as we know it will cease to exist.

His domestic policies are designed to enrich the top 5 percent to 10 percent of the population while the balance suffers and becomes fodder for their pre-emptive wars. The "spin doctors" for Mr. Bush consistently insult the American public with their deceiving terms such as the "Death Tax" as they continue to shift more of the country's wealth to the very rich.

In combination with that unspoken agenda is a foreign policy designed to protect and enhance the wealth of the very rich, as was the policy of the British Empire that produced huge estates for a few while the masses lived in poverty and died for the rich in battlefields across the world. The American Empire as desired by this administration will produce similar results. The growing wealth gap between the rich and the masses in America will accelerate, probably to the point of severe unemployment and a necessary draft of idle young men.

The Bush Administration has taken dishonest advantage of 9/11 to push these unassociated agendas on the American public. It will be a tragedy for America if President Bush is re-elected.

Thanks, city officials, for bring<0x00AD>ing a grocery chain to the central Toledo area. You gave Farmer Jack how many tax breaks, how many thousands of dollars? Now do you think that money could have been spent in a more lasting positive effort for our citizens of this area of the city? Farmer Jack is now leaving us with nothing but a bargain basement-type replacement.

Are you truly worried about urban flight?

Who would want to move downtown and then have to drive miles to shop for decent groceries?

COSI says it wants a levy, Mayor Jack Ford wants to add a $5 monthly charge on garbage pickup that is already paid for by real estate taxes. Utilities, sewer, gas, electric, and insurance, home and auto, keep rising while layoffs and job eliminations, part-time and full-time, keep going up.

People on a fixed income see taxes increasing to record levels, increased insurance, home and auto, drug costs and low interest rates on savings, while industry gets more tax breaks passed on to you know who, and city, county, and teachers all want more money!

Enough is enough!
