Mr. Kasich, the sun's not rising

11/9/2011

Gov. John Kasich said that with the advent of BX Solutions, the new intermodal terminal in North Baltimore, and the spinoff of Marathon Petroleum Corp. in Findlay, "the sun is starting to rise" on our local economy ("Port Authority, firm seal deal to do business," Oct. 28).

This is nothing more than the same old same old from Mr. Kasich.

BX Solutions is going to hire 200 full-time and 350 part-time workers. BAX Global, which BX Solutions is going to replace at Toledo Express Airport, got rid of 700 workers. So we are still 150 short.

What the governor calls sunshine, I call smoke.

Political ads' money misspent

I am appalled at the amount of money wasted on political advertising. Do the supporters and opponents of the various issues and candidates really think people pay attention to the ads filled with lies, half-truths, and rhetoric?

Those millions of dollars could have been much better spent on charities.

Don't rip Paul on death scenario

The writer of the Oct. 13 Readers' Forum letter "Sanctity of life escapes GOP" insinuated that Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul was in favor of letting a coma patient die. But it was some in the debate audience who said the coma patient in the hypothetical situation should be left to die.

I am neither a Republican nor a Democrat, but I support Dr. Paul. We must look at the character of the candidates and not party preference.

The two major parties give us the illusion of choice, but in reality there is little difference between them.

Ron Paul wrongly left out of cartoon

I take exception to the Rob Rogers editorial cartoon of Oct. 17. Where is Ron Paul? Why do the mainstream media continually ignore and marginalize this man? Could it be that he is the only candidate who seriously threatens the status quo, of which Block Communications is a part?

Dr. Paul has raised more campaign funds than several of the candidates depicted in the cartoon put together. He does it all at the grassroots, with no money accepted from special interests.

School bus stop safety questioned

The Blade reported the step-up of enforcement of regulations at school bus stops ("Safety week highlights school transportation," Oct. 19). Imagine my dismay, while I was driving my daughter to school, to see a large delivery truck emblazoned with the Toledo Public Schools designation blast past a school bus that had its "stop" arm out.

Perhaps the enforcement of bus regulations should be refreshed for those who should know better.
