Teamwork a must for Great Lakes

8/18/2012

We cannot get bogged down in our efforts to protect the Great Lakes by disagreements over how they will get cleaned up or which agency is going to foot the bill ("Saving the lake," editorial, July 16).

We shouldn't let the Great Lakes be added to the long list of inhumanities already done to the world God gave us.

New parking meters a waste of money

The Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority and the Downtown Toledo Development Corp. are wasting taxpayer money on solar-powered parking cores ("Change in cards for downtown parking meters; 400 to take debit, credit payments," July 1).

What were they thinking when they purchased those cores for which motorists can use credit or debit cards? Did they research how these cores are used in other cities?

There should be a watchdog committee to make sure the port authority and development corporation don't waste any more of our money on foolish things.

Stimulus money aided Port Clinton

I don't understand the campaign ads that question where the Obama Administration stimulus money went.

Some of that stimulus money went to my town, Port Clinton. Our streets and sewers are better because of it.

Obamacare legal, but unpopular

Every poll I've seen in the past two years, whether liberal or conservative, has shown that the majority of those polled oppose the Affordable Care Act as implemented.

People want it repealed or replaced. Why do the Washington elites impose their will on us, when they should be obeying the will of the people?

Candidates do say businesses get help

The writer of the July 27 Readers' Forum letter "Government not a help to businessman" said that he owned, operated, and constructed six radio stations on his own.

But in his speech, President Obama talked about all the people who help us: parents, teachers, people who build roads and bridges. Mitt Romney has said exactly the same thing.

It's disconcerting when the people we count on to be fair in their judgments are not.
